The world sees it: Biggest threat to global economy is "a few right-wing nutters" in the US Congress
Edited on Sun Jul-24-11 07:17 PM by Sparkly
Where else does such a small group of rightwing nuts hold such power over the world's economy??

Only here. And most of the world sees that it's about a small percentage of our country who are utterly, totally and happily deluded, ignorant and misinformed yet they're vehement, stubborn and entrenched in their idiocy due to their anger, hatred and self-righteousness all of which is based on their fear, fear and more fear....

Here's a quote from an official in our greatest ally, the UK:

"The irony of the situation at the moment, with markets opening tomorrow morning, is that the biggest threat to the world financial system comes from a few right-wing nutters in the American congress rather than the euro zone."

So said Business Secretary Vince Cable. (Sorry if this was already posted.)

6. Yep, very dangerous, the coupling of the faithful with RW ideologies, money and a
complicit complacent MSM. And the vicious spreading of lies and disinformation. I'm fearful we might see a very bad part of history repeat in some form or another.

2. I'm feeling quotey.
"The end of democracy and the defeat of the American Revolution will occur when government falls into the hands of lending institutions and moneyed corporations."

5. Wow -- I wasn't familiar with that quote.
What's it from, exactly?

He saw the potential for capitalism to corrupt democracy (and breed fascism).

10. It can't be sourced definitively
It may be an amalgamation:

Earliest known appearance in print: 1994<2>

Earliest known appearance in print, attributed to Thomas Jefferson: see above

Status: This exact quotation has not been found in the writings of Thomas Jefferson. It may be a mistaken amalgamation of the author's comments in the above 1994 reference with a real Jefferson quotation. Jefferson wrote in 1825 to William Branch Giles of "a vast accession of strength from their younger recruits, who, having nothing in them of the feelings or principles of '76, now look to a single and splendid government of an aristocracy, founded on banking institutions, and monied incorporations under the guise and cloak of their favored branches of manufactures, commerce and navigation, riding and ruling over the plundered ploughman and beggared yeomanry."<3> Chomsky's 1994 book quotes Jefferson's 1825 letter to Giles and then comments that " warned that that would be the end of democracy and the defeat of the American revolution."

7. That's not the problem.
What they make on wages and benefits is little compared with what they make from corporate interests. That's where the problems lie.

15. My question about this is ......
are there really enough tea party republicans that a bipartisan bill couldn't be passed through the house without their votes? Do republicans really march in such lockstep?
