Wu Won’t Seek Re-Election
Edited on Sun Jul-24-11 09:53 PM by The Northerner
Embattled Rep. David Wu, facing allegations that he forced an “unwanted sexual encounter” with a young woman, will not run for re-election next year, a Democratic source confirmed on Sunday night, adding that pressure is building for the Oregon Democrat’s resignation.

Shortly after the news broke, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called on the Ethics Committee to investigate the allegations against Wu. “With deep disappointment and sadness about this situation, I hope that the Ethics Committee will take up this matter,” the California Democrat said in a statement. “I will send a letter to the Ethics Committee asking them to formally initiate a review of this matter.”

Politico first reported on Sunday night that Wu would not seek an eighth term next year. He came under fire on Friday after the Oregonian reported that “a distraught young woman” called Wu’s Portland office this spring, “accusing him of an unwanted sexual encounter.”

In a brief statement in response to the Oregonian report, Wu said only, “This is very serious, and I have absolutely no desire to bring unwanted publicity, attention or stress to a young woman and her family.”

1. Despite his apparent mistakes I really like David Wu.

His seat should be safely in Dem hands and there is, in fact, life beyond politics. He's making the right choice for the party and his district here IMO.

P.S. On the off chance he stops by this forum; thanks for the Klingon Vs. Vulcan speech on the house floor Mr. Wu. Any politician who makes a Star Trek reference is OK with me and that particular speech cracked me up.

:applause:

2. Good news for Oregon.
Some guy named Brad is gonna be an Oregon congressman.

Wu is toast. And that's good.
