What the heck ever happened to Congressman David Dreier?

I thought he must have lost an election somewhere along the way. I haven't heard a word from him in a very long time.

A decade ago he was ubiquitous on television, and seemingly a very influential voice in the Republican party.

I had assumed he was voted out a while back, but I just saw him in a bit role, in the background, in a gathering of GOP lawmakers on NBC's First Look program.

He used to seem like a controversial, far-right figure. But if I'm recalling correctly, he seems almost quaint when judged against the Republican lamestream of today.

1. He's about to be redistricted out.

He was also a gay Republican congressman who, for all his bluster, was relatively sane. That's a bad combination in the current House GOP.

The GOP is purging all their "relatively sane" members. I swear, I thought he seemed pretty far-right back in the day.

I can't decide if this sounds like good news or bad.
