Get our DAMNED SS Surplus back from those you gave it to!
Edited on Mon Jul-25-11 07:33 AM by boston bean
It's not theirs, it's ours!

It's sitting in their private bank accounts. Thanks to Bush and Obama!

We want our god damned money back! And NO, we don't want to pay it back ourselves, duh. Bush and Obama didn't give it to us, they gave it to FAT CATS, it is not our debt to repay!

As I said in an earlier reply, it's like my diamond ring was stolen. The person who stole it pawned it, and to get my ring back I have to buy it back from the pawn shop at a ridiculously inflated price. And the person who stole it doesn't pay a thing, and the pawn shop still makes a profit!

.

1. Pretty good racket if you can get away with it.

Steal a trillion get fined a billion...the crooks are getting fat while granny wonders if she can afford a loaf of bread and a bowl of JoBo...

Edit>>> Life sucks, so granny spends her bread money for a cab ride to the polls on election day. Six months down the road and life Really sucks now. So granny puts her walker up for sale in the local free ads paper, as she's roasting the neighbor's cat over a fire she's built out of several twigs that blew down in the storm that tore the roof off her house yesterday. "Golden Years Your Ass," she thinks as she remembers all that money the government took out of her pay checks all those years, when she worked at ENRON and played the game. Granny looks at the half cooked cat as the last of the twigs burn away and tells God that she hopes that Kenny Boy thought of her, when he spent her pension funds in Aspen Colorado, entertaining some of his high ranking republican cronies.

Right now Granny just wishes she could afford her pain meds, a dry place to sleep and a kind word instead of another pack of lies. Granny tries to remember the good old days, before trust became extinct and when her hard earned dollars were worth more than a plug nickel. When she could hold her head up and be treated like something other than a burden to the ruling class. Granny helped build America, but now America wants to turn it's back on her and forget that she suffers just like any other human being.

5. yep, that is what it is. a racket.
But this is exaclty what they want us to do.

They want us to pay it back somehow. They have drained us dry and still look for ways to get more blood from a stone.

It's criminal.

2. VA Gov just did the same thing.
He claimed a $300 M surplus while not depositing a required $600 M into the state pension fund. The agreement was to begin those payments in 2013, with interest. The repubs just love these tricks.

6. you will get a state pension. That is what you agreed to.
Many more did not agree to have their SS ripped away from them, and have no state pension to fall back on.

8. My pension is viewed by Social Security as windfall.
I worked for several years under Social Security and do not expect to get it back. But still Social Security can keep it.

7. Exactly. The SS surplus was used to pay for tax cuts for the rich.

Income taxes on the rich ought to go back up to pay back the SS fund. It's as simple as that.

11. Greenspan himself said that SS has real assets.

From Wikipedia:

At a Senate hearing in July 2001, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan was asked whether the trust fund investments are “real” or merely an accounting device. He responded, “The crucial question: Are they ultimate claims on real resources? And the answer is yes.”

12. Totally agree, I've been saying this for years...
The Social Security trust fund is a debt owed to the working class of America by the wealthy people of America. The government used funds taken in by the regressive payroll tax to allow reductions in more progressive taxes that skew toward the wealthy.
