The President expects you to be upset
bybrooklynbadboy

OBAMA:

..............

But in the interest of being serious about deficit reduction, I was willing to take a lot of heat from my party — and I spoke to Democratic leaders yesterday, and although they didn’t sign off on a plan, they were willing to engage in serious negotiations, despite a lot of heat from a lot of interest groups around the country, in order to make sure that we actually dealt with this problem.

So I want to be clear. I’m not suggesting that we had an agreement that was signed, sealed and delivered. The parties were still apart as recently as yesterday. But when you look at the overall package, there’s no changing of the goalposts here. There has been a consistency on our part in saying we’re willing to make the tough cuts and we’re willing to take on the heat for those difficult cuts, but that there’s got to be some balance in the process.

If the presidents gets his big deal, he expects you, the Democrats, to be upset about it. Not cheering it. When and if he strikes a deal to cut Social Security, which has nothing to do with the deficit at all, which he himself says he is willing to do, he doesn't expect you to respond by saying "GO OBAMA! CUT MY SOCIAL SECURITY! HOORAY!" He expects you to be plenty pissed about the Grand Bargain. He expects you to respond with HEAT.

Don't take my word for it. Listen to the man himself. My message is "no need to worry, sir. I'm already there."

20. Calling us interest groups is actually a step up
from what he called us in his 2006 speech to the Hamiltonian Democrats-I believe the term he used then was "losers".

7. "interest groups around the country"
Right...a real bunch of nobodys...only about 80% of WE THE PEOPLE, but then WE THE PEOPLE don't amount to anything in the grand plan.

Or, how Obama and Blue Dogs forever changed the image of the Democratic Party as the creator of the New Deal and the defender of Social Security.

He's a cold, calculated piece of work.

At first I thought he was naive & in over his head, but I've come to believe that what you stated is closer to the truth.

10. Yes, I agree, many here wish to 'look correct' or as if they are
in one the process, rather than listen to the cues the President gives them. In my opinion, it is an ego trip. They do not want to play the part of a Democratic voter, they want to display their insight and telegraph 'trust' when what is being asked for is a noisy opposition to bad policy.

11. Making Obama the Lightening Rod takes ALL the Heat of Congress members...
Like him or not, Obama is the president now and will be the candidate for 2012.

It's all well and good to hold his feet to the fire- in fact, it's our duty.

But putting ALL of our efforts there plays well into the hands of the evil side.

And that's how we're going to lose even more of what little power we have left: by being so angry with our guy that the rest of the government goes about their merry way.

I hope we respond with HEAT, and directed to the greatest effect!

13. That 'heat' will be in the form of no second term.
But why the fuck would he care - he's already got his place in the history book, and he is set for life.

whispering to his base that everything's gonna be just fine................

I think Bernie will get a lot of write-ins in '12 whether he wants them or not.
