Glenn Beck compares Norwegian campers to 'the Hitler youth'
BECK: And then there was a shooting at a political camp, which sounds a little like, you know, the Hitler youth or whatever. I mean, who does a camp for kids that's all about politics? Disturbing.
Yeah, a political camp for kids? Who does that? Disturbing!

Funny thing, though. Turns out the tea party does that:

Here's another option now that the kids are out of school: a weeklong seminar about our nation's founding principles, courtesy of the Tampa 912 Project.
The organization, which falls under the tea party umbrella, hopes to introduce kids ages 8 to 12 to principles that include "America is good," "I believe in God," and "I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable." <...>

4. Beck (R) thinks someone should have shot Pope Ratzinger when he was a Nazi Youth (R)?
Edited on Mon Jul-25-11 01:54 PM by SpiralHawk
Right winger republicons supporting the shooting of right winger fascist children? How screwed up is that?

Besides, the Norwegian kids were lefties, not right wing nutters like Hitler, the Nazis, Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity and the Republicons.

Get a clue, Beck, you draft-dodging Republicon propagandist. Stop spewing scummy muck. Even if Pope Ratzinger (R) was a right wing whacko like you, no one should condone murder, least of all you.

6. This guy is worse, he is an academic after all
http://www.theoccidentalobserver.net/2011/07/the-political-ideas-of-anders-behring-breivik/

Professor Kevin MacDonalds from California State.

I have emailed all the major newspapers in Norway about this guy, i hope they call him and ask him just exactly what he thinks is great and correct about Breivik's ideas.

24. Thanks for the link to the MacDonalds article, Lars77.
It was painful (but informative) to read for a number of reasons, one of them being that it just reeks of anti-Semitism. That seems to be the main area of disagreement between Prof. MacDonalds and Breivik, i.e. Breivik's alleged Zionism and "philo-Semitism." The comments were even worse. So now the latest code word for Jews in anti-Semitic screeds is "The Tribe." That's something I was unaware of before.

7. Why do we get 10-15 posts every day about Hate Radio outrages?
Just wondering. Unless we're actually going to do something about it, why does every new raving from the wingers get its own airing here?

29. Because we have to keep hammering away at advertisers
Edited on Mon Jul-25-11 06:14 PM by RamboLiberal
That helped drive him off TV. The bastard should lose all his advertisers over this - though he won't. And radio stations who carry his crap the program managers should hear from people like us.

BTW this one pissed me off enough to drop a line to local station that carries Beck and to letter to editor of local paper.

31. How's that working?
All 1200 hate radio stations broadcast the same swill all day, 7 days a week. HOw many have been taken off the air?

This seems like just more Dem self-abuse - let's post all these right-wing outrages so we can get really, really mad.

And several radio stations dropped him including NYC and Philly. Plus a couple of smaller ones. Even 1 station or 1 advertiser is 1 more victory.

39. I have wonder about similar things -- Why do so many left of center people
watch and obsess about RW hate radio/TV? The more their message is repeated the more influence it has. Our obsession with RW entertainers let's them dominate the discussion. Even Colbert (love the show) is thematically married to O'Reilly because his show is a parody of Bill O. The US media is a RW echo chamber and we are helping maintain that.

Btw, Glen Beck talks about Hitler because his audience is 75+ years old; cranky old white men who remember WWII like it was yesterday.

9. Norwegian response
This isnt available in English yet. i'll translate.

http://www.dagbladet.no/2011/07/25/nyheter/utenriks/usa/innenriks/politikk/17453053/

US media is filled with material on the terrorist attacks in Norway. The conservative and controversial commentator Glenn Beck used his national radio show to compare the Labour Youth with Hitlers nazi youth, Hitlerjugend.

(You know the beck quotes)

- Political scientist and Labour Party member Frank Aarebrot is upset when he hears Becks statements.

- He is a fascist. Only a fascist would say something like that. The man is swine, Aarebrot says of the commentator who until recently had a very popular talkshow on the large newschannel Fox News, and is often seen to be an opinionmaker in conservative republican circles.

- Beck is a vulgar propagandist who is trying to surpass Joseph Goebbels, Aarebrot says.
- The AUF is a free and democratic youth organization like any other.

He thinks Bevks statements is a frightening example of how American voters are misled.

It is frightening that there are people who are doing these kinds of awful fairytale stories. The worst is that some will believe this is objective reporting.

The political scientist says the claims are so upsetting that the Norwegian embassy in Washington D.C. should send out a press release stating what kind of organization the AUF is.

- Even if it is not common practice, they should do it in this situation.

are oblivious to the fact that other countries are actually watching the public discourse in your country. Sometimes it feels like we are watching some sort of play or masquerade. My academic field is US-Europe history and relations so i watch you really closely and i understand whats going on.

But my friend the taxi driver just says "The U.S. is a TV show."

21. Age of victims
Some of the kids at this camp were younger than 16. I think some were as young as 12.

I did not join any political organisations until I turned 18, and had the right to vote.

I don't think it's a good idea for political organisations to recruit under-16s.

I think 16 year-olds should be allowed to join political organisations and vote in elections.

I long ago stopped worrying about how Glenn Beck fills airtime. Who gives a sh**?

Do you not think that Beck knew his statements would be controversial and widely reported? He is a stupid sh*t for brains, just like Limbaugh. Don't even humor the man by giving him attention to his whacko statements.
