"The Christian Right, Dominionism, and Theocracy"
a good article for those unfamiliar with the concepts involved:

http://www.publiceye.org/christian_right/dominionism.htm

Berlet's Political Research Associates is still a good resource for background info; some of the articles are a bit dated, but the info is solid.

With the economic instability we're in, and the potential for further disruption, we do well to educate ourselves and call attention to the background and motivating ideologies of demagogues promising answers.

3. the TPARTY NATION: One Party RULE: By, FOR and OF Corps.
It is truly amazing to me how many americans try to "impose" their christian fundamentalism on this nation's governance and then claim they love the country and are loyal to the Constitution. It is also clear, no matter how hard they try, the evangelicals do in fact preach hatred of "the other" and that poison is going around the world. What happened in Norway: a blonde blue eyed christian fundamentalist devolved to violence to "profess his faith and condemn the other" by killing 96 people, including 88 children. We get comfortable and want to forget that greed and envy is insatiable. And that the lust for power is a part of mankind's ego. How that ego develops CAN CHANGE THE WORLD. We've seen this before, most notably in Nazi Germany. THE OTHER was blamed for the economic trials of the people of Germany. Good, decent people turned their heads the other way when violence against "the enemy" was building and ultimately they came to hate "the other" or die with them. THE TPARTY NATION, wants to impose CHRISTIAN FUNDAMENTALISM ON THE PEOPLE OF THE US. The want to starve govt, enrich the powerful few (worthies), impoverish the many (unworthies) and eradicate public education in favor of private voucher systems. They want to privatize govt services (for fiscal reasons). When experience is that privatization has cost taxpayers more, much more. Erik Larson's book: BEAST AT THE GATE is a worthwhile and timely read.

6. Yeah, that's one that really is without any merit.
They're only "oppressed" to the degree that they can't insert religion into government (even though the camel's nose is pretty far into the tent on that one).

It's an interesting turn of events: the Baptists of Danbury, Connecticut, were the ones who sparked Jefferson's responsive letter in support of their call for a protection of religious freedom. Now some in the Baptist community are among the chief theocrats.

Interesting Wiki article on Baptists and their transformation.
