Crap! Arnie Duncan was rubbing elbows with Branstad at the state education conference.
Never did I think I would see the day that the state of Iowa would be talking about abandoning the education of our children to the private sector. I came to Iowa as a young woman and stayed because it was state full of goodhearted people who had a lot of common sense and were basically fair to others. It is still that way for the most part.

I posted the following on our local channel's discussion board in the available space.

"Really, Iowans? We need charter schools here? Really? We had one of the best school systems in the nation and that is the main reason I made this state my home when my children were younger. Now the ONLY way we can educate our children is to reduce access to a public education for all to squabbling over places in for profit schools? It doesn't speak well of our state to try to repeat the disastrous experiments of other states. Let us get back to basics."
