Tea Party Slaps Down Boehner's Latest Proposal
So what plan, one wonders, will he be putting forth tonight after the Prez speaks.

“UPDATE: 4:10 p.m. -- A coalition of Tea Party chapters and conservative lawmakers on Monday rejected the debt proposal put forward by Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), despite his efforts to sweeten the deal with provisions favored by his conservative base.

The Cut, Cap, Balance Coalition, which boasts hundreds of Tea Party groups and more than 100 GOP lawmakers in its membership, is citing two provisions in Boehner's proposal that amount to deal-breakers: its call for creating a Congressional Commission and its inclusion of a balanced budget amendment that, according to the group, is only for show.

"A symbolic vote on a balanced budget amendment at some later time minimizes its importance, as it will not be tied to an increase in the debt ceiling," reads a statement from the coalition. "A BBA that allows a tax increase with anything less than a 2/3 supermajority is not a serious measure."

Conservatives were also rubbed the wrong way by Boehner's inclusion of a "Super Congress" in his plan. The new commission, composed of 12 members from both parties and both chambers, would be granted extraordinary new powers to fast-track legislation through both chambers without it being amended. The commission would be tasked with finding a minimum amount of spending cuts before Congress could proceed to a second increase in the debt ceiling next year.”…cont…

2. Boehner Must Not Have Gotten the Memo
They don't want ANY deal. They believe default is in their best interest. Obama could come out and accept the Ryan plan and they still would not budge. This has indeed been political theatre and if we end up defaulting republicans will get the vast majority of the blame, not that the teabaggers care. They believe they are on a mission from god.

3. But, but, but . . .
Boehner went to all the trouble of clearing this with Boss Limbaugh! And this is the thanks he gets. Well, I'm confident that Limbaugh will take to the airwaves tomorrow to withdraw his former imprimatur for the Boehner Scheme, and Republicans will once again form a united front in the face of the fractured Democrats, who are in disarray.

I keep flashing on the Borg collective, for some strange reason.

4. I disagree that the Dems are in disarray
The Dems have been pretty united so far on all of this. I'm not even aware of any Blue Dogs signing on to the Republican's madness. If they have, they're being very........very......quiet about it.

19. Thats what Nancy Pelosi called the Cut Cap & Balance bill the other day
"Cut and Paste, or whatever they are calling it"

It was hilarious.

On the other question, from TPM: "The Dems voting with the GOP were Blue Dogs Reps. Dan Boren (D-OK), Jim Cooper (D-TN), Jim Matheson (D-UT), Mike McIntyre (D-NC), and Heath Shuler (R-NC)"

(Shuler is a "Democrat" (or so he claims) but mislabled (more appropriately) as a Republican in this quote).

9. No, see, Democrats are always in disarray
Just like Republicans are always united in their thinking and actions. You know, Democrats are tax and spend, while Republicans are fiscally responsible. Democrats are soft on security, while Republicans are for peace through strength and bombing. Lots and lots of bombing.

11. I said last week that it was pointless for Boehner to be involved in this
because (not to give him any credit) every time he comes up with a deal (like Congress back in the "Age of Reality") some radio hack or a parrot of a rightwing radio hack comes out and rips the deal apart.

Boehner has no control over his own party. Talking to him is a waste of time. The right is like 5 years old playing soccer - the ball pops out and they run around it like bees until it pops out again.

16. We Have a Problem There
in court, I mean.

You know it, I know it, Obama knows it.

The Court would rule against Obama if he tries to use the 14th.

They would have another (non-precedent-setting) "Bush v. Gore moment".

13. more and more it seems to be about removing Boehner as speaker
than anything to do with debt or budgets. Cantor wants that job and he has a group of mindless idiots willing to give it to him.
