3. A strongly worded speech, I imagine. If he doesn't have his fly open, though, |
|
I'm not sure how much post-coverage he'll get in teevee land.

14. I'm going to play DU Obama speech bingo tonight... |
|
I'm not going to read any posts. Just the Latest page.
Spaces on the board for:
"Game, Set, Match" "Oh, it's on, Boner/McConnel" "Suck on that Teabaggers" "Obama sealed the deal tonight" "He's sticking it to the Repubs!!" "...just wiped the floor with the Teabaggers"
I'm sure there are many others I"m missing. And it should be noted that all of this hyperbole will be in response to a completely milquetoast, vague, never confrontational, "bipartisan" speech.

|
Edited on Mon Jul-25-11 06:24 PM by Sarah Ibarruri
even when I was campaigning like a madwoman for him, something bugged the HELL out of me, and it was his applauding that vicious asshole, Ronald Reagan. I just didn't get it. I couldn't get past it. How could he LIKE Ronald Reagan? Reagan did so much damage to this country, and here he was, admiring him. However, while I campaigned for him, I forced myself not to think about that. Now I'm thinking A LOT about that.

but guess what happens next....? cause I believe that this part is much more important than the issue of the elective office of just one man.... Always has been, always will be.
The President will go on, whether as President or as a former President after 2012.... but where will you, I and millions of others of us be if indeed he doesn't save his presidency (guess it was always..."yes, you, Obama can", not "yes, we can" from your perspective is safe to say), which it appears many people in your thread are also hoping he doesn't just like the Republicans are hoping also!
...and so then what? what are you gonna do to save not the Presidency, but to save your ass and millions of others?
So the real nitty gritty question is not the one you posed but instead, it is..... What will you do and how will you get it done...since it appears that this President isn't gonna do it for you?

15. Good for you! I think you should do just that....... |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-25-11 06:38 PM by FrenchieCat
and then after you vote for Romney, and he does the exact opposite of what you demand, and won't even listen to shit you have to say...... guess you will then vote for someone else.
In 2010, that happened...either folks didn't vote or they voted for the opposition party.... and if you think you are in better shape due to this strategy as your way of "doing something"... good luck to you and your causes, which obviously you care much less about than you pretend.

While I am not in favor of the Obama snip snip approach, I much prefer it to the surgery the GOP will do. Careful what you pay for.

30. Sure, if he rejects austerity, cuts war costs and raises taxes on rich |
|
Otherwise, no, he's not going to save his Presidency tonight. He has screwed up the debt ceiling issue so badly he's not going to be able to stop the ass-kicking he's taking.
The more likely outcome is he will get his point out masterfully for about 12 minutes until the GOP and pundits take over.

31. Why, after he's tirelessly worked the last couple months destroying it? |
|
Can't imagine that turning around because of one speech. This isn't the campaign, anymore. He's a known quality at this point.
Many, many progressives don't like what we have come to know about his policy choices. He's not the President we worked to get elected and hoped he would be.

33. There are about 60 million people who receive SS and SSI |
|
The number of persons on Medicare is probably similar.
Retired persons tend to vote until they are unable, which probably still leaves over 50 million people who understand the importance of social security in a very personal way. And they want these programs available for the generations following them.
It's true that this demographic is divided between the parties, and it's divided in a way that on many issues leans toward conservatives. One thing is pretty certain...these people, including tea-partiers, all reach over to grab that monthly check and help with medical expenses.
In 2008 about 130 million people voted. Pissing off just half of that 30 million seniors would be like throwing away 25% of the total vote for all candidates in 2008. Historically, people expect the Dems to fight for social issues, and expect R's to work against social issues. Seniors are likely to vote their disappointment. It's doubtful that gap could be made up by voters under 55.
Losing seniors and motivating them to vote for an alternative could certainly foreclose chances of a second term, it could end up dragging down a whole lot of incumbents.

34. I anticipate more words & posturing. We need Obama to win because the GOP will likely control |
|
the House and the Senate, along with a conservative Supreme Court. I live in Wisconsin and believe me, none of us want to live in a nation where Republicans control everything because there is no reason to not believe they will do exactly as they have done here in Wisconsin and elsewhere on a national level.
However, if Obama goes along with cutting SS and Medicare he risks losing next year and if he does his name will go down in infamy with a great many Democrats who will feel betrayed.

intended to please the left. We don't count anymore, his message will be directed to those so called independence and undecided voters. We liberals and progressives don't count anymore. Like the words in the late Michael Jackson song, "All I wanna say is, they don't really care about us."
