MADISON — Gov. Scott Walker has signed into law a bill that gives the state the power to redraw legislative district boundary lines before local governments have completed their work.
Walker signed the bill on Monday in private but took no action on two other bills that redraw district boundaries for all 132 legislative districts and the eight congressional districts.
Walker’s office issued a statement saying he had signed the bill, but it offered no additional comment or indication when Walker would act on the other two proposals.
All three bills passed the Legislature last week.
The one Walker signed on Monday also requires the state Supreme Court to appoint a three-judge panel to hear any challenges brought in state court to the redistricting maps.
