It's not Boehner, Cantor, and the Tea Party that Dems have to play chicken with |
|
Boehner had to check in with Rush Limbaugh the end of last week to explain himself, and assure Limbaugh he’s not going to compromise. They talked again this morning.
If Limbaugh said he would go along with tax increases they would happen. After opposing McCain for most of the last presidential election he finally got on board the Friday before the Republican convention. The price? Sarah Palin. She, instead of McCain’s first choices, was announced minutes before the start of that Friday show. The convention was saved.
Limbaugh is the real leader of the Republican Tea Party. Politicians and media need to acknowledge this fact. And he needs to take major responsibility if the economy does tank.
As main man for the think tank-fed radio megaphone he has been the Tea Party's main teacher, motivator, and director.
He is not backing down and may, like Eric Cantor, stand to gain financially by tanking the economy, having advised in May of last year to bet against the dollar.
Republican politicians can't defy Limbaugh without paying a big price. Their only way out is to do it in large numbers or figure out a way to fire him.
