4. I believe FAUX is playing up the ties to American Renaissance

in an attempt to 'cut their losses,' seeing that if people look deeper, they will find even closer ties to the teabaggers. From FAUX's perspective, American Renaissance is preferable to a group that could be construed as their 'base.' Thing is, American Renaissance is probably composed of FAUX viewers as well, but FAUX is willing to deny them in order to avoid offending their 'mainstream' viewers.
