Boone County career center closes after meth residue found

MADISON, W.Va. -- Parents and teachers spoke out at a meeting Monday evening in Madison after news broke that the Boone County Career and Technical Center has been closed because areas of the building tested positive for methamphetamine residue.
The state Department of Health and Human Resources recommended the Danville school close on Friday, after State Police investigated allegations that employees possessed and smoked meth in the building and contractors discovered residue.
State Police Sgt. Anthony Perdue has said that teacher Jack Turley admitted to smoking meth with Principal Keith Edward Phipps in the principal's office during the school year, according to published reports. Perdue did not immediately return phone messages from the Gazette on Monday.
Both Turley and Phipps have been suspended. Turley is suspended without pay -- school officials confirmed -- but it was unclear if Phipps was still receiving pay. Read more...
