*** Check in here after you've written your Representative ****
Edited on Tue Jul-26-11 07:29 AM by Richardo
I sent mine to Mike McCaul (R*) TX-10 this morning.

*Of course

I don't have a copy, but essentially I said:

Rep McCaul:

Separate politics from the debt ceiling debate and raise the ceiling as requested, as was done 18 times under President Reagan, 7 times under George Bush, and numerous times for Presidents of both parties.

As you know, the debt ceiling enables the US to pay the bills it has already incurred, and has nothing to do with future budgets or spending. Holding the credit of the United States hostage to score political points in unconscionable. You and your colleagues in the House of Representatives should approve raising the limit with a clean, unamended bill. You did it for George Bush, who put this country $5 trillion deeper into debt, you can do the same for this President, who is attempting to help this nation recover from the catatrophic spending of Geaorge Bush.

Hands off Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

While you're at it introduce a bill for Congress to take a cut in pay and less vacation days and do without health care and retirement.

My letter

I am disappointed in you.

You are in Washington to do the PEOPLE’S business. You are acting in a seditious manner by holding the economy of the United States and the entire world hostage to your demands to end the American way of life.

You are not at war, this is not the Front. You are in the Nation’s Capitol to do the People’s business.

Do your job! Increase the debt ceiling to pay for the bills incurred by George W. Bush.

If you harm the country, know you are a traitor to the country you say you love.

22. Done This is my email to Andy" Where's my health care" Harris
Dear Mr. Harris,
I'm writing to remind you that you were sent to Washington to serve WE THE PEOPLE, not the wealthiest 1% or the craziest 13%. Why do we, the working Americans have to sacrifice when so many are doing so well? No one is asking for a tax hike. All we want is the Bush tax cuts that were supposed to sunset to sunset. They would have if your party did not hold extended unemployment benefits hostage. I'm sick and tired of hearing "We don't want to hurt the job creators". What jobs? The Bush tax cuts have been in place since 2001. During the Bush presidency, net job creation was 1.4 million. Obviously, tax cuts do not create jobs.

I read yesterday that a total of 16 TRILLION was "Loaned" to the financial sector during the bail outs. Most of this went in to the pockets of Wall St criminals. These people destroyed trillions in wealth with their Ponzi schemes and not a one of them has been charged. On top of that, most of their "Earnings" are taxed at the 15% capital gains rate. What's up with that?

Mr. Harris, the American people are waking up. The elections in 2010 went the way they did because many Democrats stayed home. Believe me, it won't happen again. There's a ground swell happening and in 2012, ANY Congressman or Senator that does not represent the will of ALL the people will be voted out of office, regardless of party affiliation.

We demand a balanced approach to the debt crisis. Mr. Boehner is wrong when he says Washington doesn't have a revenue problem. We do have a spending problem. We're spending 2 BILLION a week on wars that President Bush started but I've heard no mention of cutting that. All I've heard is cutting programs that people depend on.
Do the right thing Mr. Harris. The future of America depends on it.
Thank You,

28. I wrote and faxed this to my rep Kevin McCarthy, who is
the Majority Whip and who could do something to change the Tea Partiers but seems to be one of them instead.

I just called your office about not touching Social Security and Medicare, programs that I, and other elderly widows and just the plain elderly, rely on. But I felt I had much more to say. First, I was raised in a Republican household and I know what real Republican values are although I’m not a Republican myself. However, what has emerged as a Republican philosophy after the days of Dwight D. Eisenhower are frankly un-American.

I was born at the end of the depression, so I never suffered the consequences of it, but my parents did. They knew Hoover’s policies were bad for the country and the economy. They would never have approved a return to that ideology, which was ushered back in, beginning with Ronald Reagan and was unfortunately perpetuated through the Bush years and now by our present Democratic President. They proudly voted for Eisenhower and then Nixon and lived long enough to be disappointed with that last choice. Fortunately, they died before they had to see the mockery of the Constitution and rule of law that subsequent Republican Presidents and politicians have made of it.

America has a contract with its working people. For every FICA deduction taken from their checks, there is a promise of a small pension and medical care should they live long enough to collect it. It’s no different than paying into life insurance all your life and then your family cashing in on the benefits when you die. You made a contract and the insurance company made a contract that they must honor when the conditions of the contract are met. Most of us know that those programs are administered separately and are in no danger of collapsing if left alone. They have nothing to do with the deficit, which is mostly caused by the bumbling administration of two illegal wars. There is where you need to cut.

I am appalled at the circus occurring in Washington at the expense of our people and our country just for political expediency. The Republican Party has become a religious cult and a tool of a few fat cats who fund it. Please if you have a shred of decency in your position of power, that of Majority Whip, start returning back to the real principles of the Republican Party as evidenced by former great Republicans, like Lincoln, Roosevelt, Eisenhower and yes even Nixon, who was a decent President when he wasn’t involved in back stabbing and other dirty practices.

Please give thought to what I have said because I find that two-thirds of my friends of both political stripes feel as I do. Thank you for your time. I know you don’t have to worry about being re-elected and are ready to move ahead on Cut, Cap and Balance, but this is so bad for the country. I don’t think this is what you will want history to remember you for.

I'm sure it ended up in the shredder, but I hope he read it first.

32. (R) Mike Lee, Ut. He'll likely ignore, but I had to say it anyway.
Actually I sent it to all of the Reps and Senators except Matheson, whom I called. I sent a supportive e-mail to the WH and to Pelosi.

Mike Lee is so arrogant, he deliberately misleads himself into thinking his line of thinking represents a majority of Americans.

here is my e-mail

MAKE THE COMPROMISE!!!!!

to play with the finances of the poorest and most needy in the nation so that the richest can retain a break they NEVER EARNED is unconscionable. How dare you!!

A balanced budget includes both spending and revenues. Every household knows this. Why not you? Do your job, and do what the MAJORITY of Americans want. And that is to have the top 1% wage earners pay for the ever increasing privilege they have attained at the cost of the poor and middle class.

Not sure if he is an avowed tea partier, but if not, he's close.

I called the local Tallahassee office I told his office person that I wanted to see a vote on raising the debt ceiling - clean, with no other issues involved.

Then I told her that If Southerland does not vote to rescind the George Bush tax cuts AND if he votes to cut entitlements that have not added significantly to the deficit, I will actively campaign for whoever runs against him.

Next, I need to call Southerland's Washington office and Senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio's offices.

37. Done.
Rep. Conaway, and Senators Cornyn and Hutchison--Republicans all. Last night when the servers crashed, I faxed them. After midnight, I emailed them and Speaker Boehner. I don't feel too confident that it will help, but it seemed a much more reasonable request from our President than the "go shopping" request from President GWB.

Alas, I live in deep red TX. However, the Democrats who are here are often yellow dogs. Here, we're dealing with a crippling drought, temperatures consistently well over 100 degrees, Gov. Rick Perry, and the aforementioned representatives. The wildfires have come within about 20-25 miles of us, but did not reach us. I usually try not to think about all of that at the same time. It's scary to hear the media fawning over our illustrious governor. I keep telling myself that surely America doesn't want another swaggering Texan President with all the flaws of the last + a few new ones.

...I didn't know if he was one of the pledge signers or not, but that the whole Norquist business made them all look like puppets on a string, and that we THE AMERICAN PEOPLE who's interests they always claim to have at heart, perceive them to be controlled by these outside influences. Asked him to give not even a whole inch, just a millimeter, and to encourage his fellow R's to do the same. Told him that would go a long way to healing the rift in this country if they budged just a little.
