"It's not a wake-up call, it's a four-alarmer,"

-- Rep. Robert Brady (D-PA), quoted by the Washington Post, saying he'll introduce legislation "that would make it a federal crime to use language or images that could be interpreted as inciting violence toward members of Congress or federal officials."

10. I hear you, kpete. Sadly, I always thought it was just a matter of time
until something like this happened after the antics of the teabaggers and the fact that they got away with getting their hate on. No grown-ups told them it was NOT okay to act like savages. This is the result. :(

6. The logistic of a law like this could be tough...
...free speech and all. It's not any one word or icon on a map...It's the environment they create...the world view they espouse. They are simply a dangerous segment of society.

9. exactly. we don't need congress to abridge free speech
we need politicians to stop using hate speech for campaign purposes.

we need responsible media to stop giving a platform for eliminationist rhetoric from the right.

but when money and power is worth more than the murder of 6 people - including a 9-year-old child, they continue to do what they do.

our politicians and media have debased this nation with their actions and words.

8. This will keep the issue alive as it's argued in the House if it makes it out of committee
If it doesn't make it to the floor for a vote at least it can become part of the public discussion.

Hoping it somewhat quiets those who make a living by their vitriol.

12. What will Miss Sarah do if that happens? How will she appeal to
her followers if she can't post really hideous images and nasty Sarah-isms?
