Uh oh! Social Security.
I get my social security usually on the last Wednesday of the month, however, since it's direct deposit my bank puts it in on Tuesday. It has been in my account every Tuesday since I have been using this bank. Today it was not deposited. I'm wondering if I should be worried. If it's not there tomorrow, I'm truly screwed. President Obama said the checks might not go out after the 3rd, but I wonder if he meant for the next cycle, which would include me?

1. I hope it hasn't got to that point yet.

2. My husband also gets his the last Wednesday of the month
(actually the fourth Wednesday), but it never goes into our account until Wednesday. I assume it will be there tomorrow.

3. I'd call SS immediately and then follow up
with a call to the local office of your rep and request their aid in getting your deposit.

6. Technically, I'm not supposed to get it until tomorrow,
so I will have to wait to see if it's there by then. But I certainly will if nothing arrives by then.

8. Then, I guess it's
deep breathing time and waiting until tomorrow. But, in truth, I think you will be okay. My mom is given her check on the 3rd of every month. Talk about a nail biter!

9. Unless your mom is in a coma, she must be besides
herself with worry. I know I got that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach, when I went to my account and it wasn't there.

10. Not yet. Next week, most likely.
She told me that this is the second depression she has lived in/through and the difference is in the last depression, everyone was hurt. There was a dept. store in Chicago that had to close off access to its windows because so many rich people jumped off; others just lost everything. In this depression, the only ones doing well are the rich and they are doing better all the time.

13. That's the truth. The rich haven't lost anything thanks
to bank and Wall Street bailouts, like they did in the last Great Depression. If they did, there would be a whole different conversation going on in Washington today.

7. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's just the bank.
It's that they have been so on time up until today.

11. A little known fact about SS payments.
Over 50 million SS payments are made every month. This means that payments have to be prepared far in advance Any changes or stopping of payments have to be made well in advance; for payments made on the 3rd of the month (a minority these days) changes cannot be made after about the 20th of the previous month. Your payment will be there tomorrow (as will mine!). Payments will be made on the 3rd. After that is, I suppose, an open question.

12. My SSD check "usually" arrives no later than the 3rd of each month.
I also receive a much smaller disability check from my former employer, and it sure as hell won't cover even my monthly rent...Yikes!!

Guess what WON'T get paid that supposedly "must" be paid very EARLY next month, IF my SSD check is late...or worse?

Just the rent, my utility bills, the latter that happen to be on an annually averaged monthly payment plan that would immediately cease if I miss or am late paying them by ONE day, as well as (my barely running/needs repairs) vehicle's insurance, doctor bills and Rx meds.

So I might have to decide between not having much if any food at all to eat, other than what little I have stored in our pantry and freezer, if I pay all my bills other than my rent, if SS becomes affected by this stalemate.

But I sympathize with those who are totally dependent on SSD, SSI, or SS retirement for income, as they may not receive anything at all, at least temporarily, and many likely live month to month with no savings to fall back on whatsoever, (and can't count on getting any help from friends or relatives) At least I will have a small amount of income to count on, IF this ongoing shitstorm in DC isn't squared away soon...

:-( :scared:

14. Oh happy day!
The bank just deposited it in my account. So it looks like we will get our payments for this month.
