A song for the times -- and the sign said long haired freaky people
Especially appropriate for those who are learning that the system is even rigged for those who are WILLING to play by the rules to get a job -- willing to work for the man and to jump hoops to get enough money to live. The system is rigged against the workers.

Signs, signs

And the sign said 'Long-haired freaky people need not apply'
So I put my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why
He said you look like a fine outstanding young man, I think you'll do
So I took off my hat, I said 'Imagine that, huh, me working for you'

Signs, signs, everywhere there's signs
******' up the scenery, breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign

And the sign says 'Anybody caught trespassing will be shot on sight'
So I jumped the fence and I yelled at the house
Hey! What gives you the right!
To put up a fence and keep me out, or to keep Mother Nature in
If God was here, he'd tell it to your face, man, you're some kind of sinner

Oh, say now mister, can't you read
You got to have a shirt and tie to get a seat
You can't watch, no you can't eat, you ain't supposed to be here

And the sign says 'You got to have a membership card to get inside' - uh!

And the sign says 'Everybody welcome, come in, kneel down and pray'
But then they passed around a plate at the end of it all
And I didn't have a penny to pay
So I got me a pen and a paper and I made up my own ******' sign
I said, 'Thank you Lord for thinking 'bout me, I'm alive and doing fine', oh

3. Maybe there ought to be some kind of a symbol we could wear...
....meaning we are in rebellion to corporate America.

2. My song
I have sung it a hundred times.

Now, when I lay me down to sleep I shall always say: Thank you, Lord. I'm alive and doing fine.
My own little sign.

they are playing with the wrong generation. The events in that song were just training for what is to come.

9. the younger generation may get to that point yet, where they...
...continually try to stick it to the man.

At least in the 60s a person COULD get a job if he/she wished to do so. There were jobs galore.

Not so now. Not even if you took out umpty thousand dollars in student loans to get a degree, or an advanced degree.

Not even if you put your hair up in your hat.

No jobs.

But lots lots lots of signs. Do this, don't do that.
