The fucker was charged with the others. Is it because there are special charges because she was only nine?

1. So far, he's been charged with federal crimes.
State charges will follow.

8. So does that mean he could do time in a federal pen first? Do they have supermax fed pens?

12. They certainly do have supermax federal prisons.
There's one in Colorado; that's where they put Zacharias Moussaoui and Ramzi Youssef.

23. Why would he go to Supermax?
Supermax is used for inmates so dangerous and violent they routinely attack, maime, and kill other inmates, staff, and guards. They are such a threat to everyone around them even while disarmed and handcuffed that they need to be constantly isolated.

48. I find that sad. Likely you oppose the death penalty too
and can't see the dichotomy in your beliefs. I would never willingly torture another human no matter what they do. Executing him would be far more humane then putting him into solitary confinement for the rest of his life to "super punish" him.

Sad. I will hope it is just the emotion talking and you will feel differently in a couple months.

in every case. Supermax a better deterrent than the death penalty, cheaper too.

46. Supermax isn't used as punishment it used to isolate inmates that present
a severe risk to other inmates, staff, and guard.

Your personal attack aside. He killed 6 people if found guilty he should be executed. If found not guilty by mental defect then he should spend the rest of his life in a mental hospital. In neither instance does he deserved to be tortured in solitary confinement. Cruel and unusual and all that.

If you feel the need to attack me personally or put words in my mouth then you have already lost the debate.

He has only been charged w/ 2 of the murder counts.
The judge and Congresswoman aide are federal employees thus it is a federal case.

No state charges has been filed for any of the non federal employees (including the girl).

5. I expect he will be charged separately in state court for that.
Two of the people who were killed were federal employees - the judge and Gifford's aide. He is being charged in federal court for crimes against federal officials. The murders and attempted murders of the other people are state crimes, over which the federal court system does not have jurisdiction.

6. Because only Federal charges have been filed...
They can charge for acts against the Judge, the Congresswoman and her aid, and two others who were injured but in the employee of the COngresswoman. State charges will be filed for the rest of the murders/attempted murders.

18. The OP referred to Christina Taylor Green as a "baby doll" girl.
The correct answer to the OP's question appears in the first few posts, but I see what HeavyJ is talking about.

Christina Taylor Green was a human being, albeit a young one. She was not a "baby doll."

41. And therein lies the rub.
She enjoyed dancing and sports, she was the only girl on her baseball team, she was on the student council, she loved animals, and she had expressed an interest in helping the less fortunate.

I find it somewhat diminishing to her existence when someone refers to her as a "baby doll." It makes me think of those creepy Marie Osmond creations. There was so much more to her than that.

Thread title extremely bizarre.

Since it seems to be a point of argument that everybody with children would understand the weirdness, I have an almost five year old girl.

killing a nine year old girl will register with the other prisoners, thankfully, even if it doesn't with brand new members of DU.

14. As others have pointed out, its the opposite of what you asked.
Its not because there are special charges because the little girl was only nine. The reason that the shooter hasn't been charged in her death (or those of the other non-federal employees) is that there are special charges for killing members of Congress, their aides, and judges.

36. The OP is not correct
The OP doesn't have the slightest understanding of what charges have been filed, who has filed them, or even the differences between federal and state law.

The OP, to put it bluntly, doesn't know what she's talking about in the slightest.

The suspect will be charged in state court with murder for EACH person he killed. The federal charges pertain to killing a federal official in the course of his or her duty. The federal charges have been filed; the state charges will likely be filed tomorrow.

The suspect hasn't been charged yet with the murder of Christina Taylor Green because she was not a federal official performing a duty of her office. He will be charged with her murder in state court.

39. Nobody is claiming anything of the kind.
The reason the guy hasn't been charged with the child's murder yet is not because she is a child but because she was not a federal official acting in an official capacity. Only federal charges, which cover those crimes, have been filed so far. The state court system has jurisdiction over the crimes against the other victims, some of whom were in their 70s. Those state crimes will be charged out the same for all of the victims regardless of their ages. I would expect those charges to come down tomorrow or the day after.

Murder is a state crime.

Murder of a federal official performing his or her duties is a federal crime.

The federal charges have been filed. The state charges have not yet been filed, but will likely be on Monday.

Do you have the slightest understanding of the legal systems in this country?

Federal charges have been filed, state charges not yet. Same crime, different circumstances and jurisdiction.

State charges will be filed soon.

BTW I did not get my law degree from a mail order school.

Furthermore, I do NOT consider "baby doll girl" to be an insult. I have a precious daughter myself. In my usage and when my parents called me a "baby doll" they meant "wonderful", not as a dummy person like an actual doll.

Some people would not get that.
