Wal-Mart Goes Nuclear Over Chicken Necks; Newlyweds Lose House; Husband Deported
Wal-Mart Goes Nuclear Over Chicken Necks; Newlyweds Lose House; Husband Deported

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (CN) - Newlywed shoppers claim Wal-Mart's false accusation that they tried to steal $2.90 worth of chicken neck bones caused the wife to be falsely arrested and lose her job, her husband to be deported, and both to lose their car, all their possessions and their house - though Wal-Mart's security video showed they had paid for the damn chicken bones.

Mary Hill Bonin sued Wal-Mart and several of its managers in Jefferson County Court.

Bonin says the imbroglio ensued when she went shopping at the Adamsville Wal-Mart on July 1, 2007, with her husband of 2 months, who was not yet a U.S. citizen.

They used the self-checkout counter to save time.

...

When the security guard found that Mary Hill Bonin had worked at another Wal-Mart, he called that store and informed it "that she was being charged with a Theft of Property in the Third Degree," even though the assistant manager already had told him that the chicken bones had been bought and paid for, the Bonins say.

sense of basic decency. Just fucking ridiculous. I wonder what it costs Walmart to defend itself against the supposed "theft" of $2.90?

That's just so wrong on so many levels.

I read the actual complaint. Awful if true. I have to say I find it strange that the lawyers that filed this suit have yahoo.com email addresses.

4. WalMart needs to pay really, really big for this.
Employing a racist guard, letting said guard overrule managers, bring false charges, the other WalMart's firing of an employee based on false charges. And the police department should have to pay big money, too.

And is there any chance for the husband to be allowed back into the U.S.?

7. Wow! Just wow.
Loss/Prevention workers are not people I want to know.

The company I worked for for nine years was taken over by another. The first day they were to take over was a Saturday and no one from that company showed up; Sunday was the same.

On Monday, company reps showed up in force and herded all employees into the break room. The Loss/Prevention guy gave us the talk which started out: "We at Eckerds believe that EVERYONE is a THIEF; and if you haven't stolen yet, it is simply because you haven't had the opportunity." :eyes:
