Blogger: I Have Recording PROVING Piers Morgan KNEW About PHONE HACKING |
|
:smoke: " The British blogger who has led the way in alleging that CNN's Piers Morgan was complicit in phone hacking while a tabloid editor is now claiming that he has a recording to prove it.
Morgan has become a top target in the phone hacking scandal, with multiple reports accusing him of having knowledge of hacking while he was editor of the Daily Mirror from 1995 to 2004. A former Mirror journalist, James Hipwell, told a British newspaper that the practice was "endemic" and that it was "inconceivable" that Morgan did not know about it.
Morgan has vociferously denied every single charge, noting that Hipwell was jailed for manipulating the stock market and calling him a far from credible witness. He also had a scalding exchange with an MP who inaccurately said that he admitted to employing the practice in his memoirs.
On Tuesday, though, Paul Staines, a the blogger also known as Guido Fawkes and a man who has been hounding Morgan over the hacking scandal, spoke to Forbes on Tuesday, saying that he is in possession of a recording "which contradicts" Morgan's denials, and shows him admitting to having paid for hacking.

5. I wouldn't be so quick to help out this 'Guido Fawkes' |
|
character. In fact, if he's after anyone, I would tend to wonder what his agenda is first.
Piers Morgan may be a bit annoying, but he was far more liberal in his politics, anti-the-Iraq War eg, than this guy, who is pretty rightwing.
I hope he is wrong, and that Morgan was not involved in any hacking to be honest. I'd rather see Guido taken out, than Morgan at this point.l

7. I think you should learn a little about him. He's not exactly |
|
a nice guy and is far more anti-liberal, than anti-Murdoch. He is pretty rightwing actually, while Morgan was always more Liberal.

15. If the guy stands for the truth and follows through |
|
I don't care if he's Hitler's Uncle.
Principles are what I care about, not political affiliation. That kind of partisan thinking is what has gotten us into the current budget crisis.

17. Principles and Guido Fawkes don't exactly |
|
go together. And he's quite willing to admit that, and has. He has described himself as 'Thatcherism on steroids'.
I would say his principles are much like Murdoch's and his silence on the Murdoch scandal has been noted. His response to questions about that was to slam the BBC.
Just as I would not take anything Murdoch had to say without checking more reliable sources first, even if every once in a while he stumbled on a few facts, I feel the same way about this Guido character. As he said, he 'enjoys making politicians and others squirm' mostly, apparently, liberal politicians and he added that 'it's probably wrong of me to enjoy it, but I do'. Not exactly someone one would describe as interested in principles of any kind.
As for Piers Morgan, he made his own bed when he became a tabloid journalist, so I have no sympathy for him. However, he has from time to time, displayed some signs of humanity, unlike Guido Fawkes who appears to be completely devoid of any human sentiments.
Motive is important. Morgan eg, opposed the Iraq war which Murdoch and his lackies fully supported. Guido's motives in exposing wrong-doing by Morgan has nothing to do with principles.
I'll wait to see what more reputable sources have to say before passing judgement on anyone.

On America's Got Talent last week, Piers was critiquing a performance, when Howie interrupted him and said (not an exact quote) "That's almost identical to what I was going to say, you must have hacked into my thoughts!"
The look on Piers' face was priceless.

9. Fawkes has targeted ' Wednesday ' as the day when " all will be revealed ". |
|
But now Staines/Fawkes claims he has a tape that contradicts Morgan's denials. What does the tape say? How was it acquired - legally or illegally? And why is Staines/Fawkes so obsessed with Morgan anyway? Staines/Fawkes isn't saying yet, emailing from London that more "will break (Wednesday) and all will be revealed."Morgan has gone to ground, is no longer commenting, says his rep.

Exclusive U.S. Audio: Piers Morgan Admits to Phone Hacking In a nearly forgotten interview on a BBC radio program two years ago, CNN host Piers Morgan—whose years as editor of News of the World and the Daily Mirror are coming under increasing scrutiny amid Britain’s phone-hacking and police-bribery scandal—admitted in general to participating in some of the news- and gossip-gathering practices that are now under investigation by the U.K. government as well as by a Justice Department probe in the United States. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/07/26/piers-morgan-admits-to-phone-hacking-exclusive-u-s-audio.html
