he has a vested interest. You can't squawk about losing jobs in the public sector in one area while you are actively seeking to slash jobs in other services.

Des Moines leaders will lobby the federal government to buffer two key post office branches from budget cuts that could cause the offices to close.

U.S. Postal Service officials are mulling whether to keep the doors open at the Highland Park branch at 100 E. Euclid Ave. and the downtown office in Capital Square, 400 Locust St.

City Council members voted unanimously today to send a “letter of concern” about the situation to the postmaster, state lawmakers and U.S. Rep. Leonard Boswell, whose 3rd Congressional District includes Des Moines. Please note that Gov. Braindead has his hand in the Post Office cookie jar and will possibly lose income if the closures occur.

Iowa mayors join forces to fight post office closures

Iowa mayors, other city officials and concerned citizens from around the state met Saturday afternoon in a board room at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge to coordinate their efforts to fight post office closures.

1. Kicking because I strongly suspect there are other RW pols who

2. Heard this on Iowa Public Radio this morning and thought, "Well,
he really does want rural Iowans to have decent mail service, maybe there is a tiny shred of decency in this dumb-ALEC excuse for a governor we've got" -- so I had this little surge of hoping there might be another tiny shred of decency in him somewhere . . .

But he owns the buildings. And in this economy, God knows they'll sit empty and pay him ZERO rent if the post offices leave.

I shooda known, shoodn't I.
