What do you even say to people like this?
This was in one of the junk mail in one of my emails.

Sigh :eyes:

How much is my fair share?

47% of American households pay no income tax.

But our democratic leaders are saying I don't pay my fair share.

Myself and those in the upper 20% of wage earners already pay over 80% of the tax.

How much is fair?

90%?

Or would it take us paying 100% to be "fair"?

I already pay over 40% in income tax and social security/Medicare. Add in sales tax, fuel tax, property tax and the various service taxes and well over 50% of my wages go towards taxes.

But according to Obama and his minions, I'm not paying enough.

And they're totally unwilling to ask the 47% that pay NO tax to give up anything.

But we know why, that's their voting base.

2. You let the other side have his vote.
You just brush him aside and steamroll right over him.

Besides, Obama won 52% of the vote in 2008 from voters with a household income of over $250,000, and that was after saying in the campaign that he wanted their taxes raised.

3. I'd tell him that my heart bleeds for his half-million-dollar-plus...
...salary and that if he's paying that much with a salary of a half-mill, perhaps he should invest in a lawyer.

Otherwise, he's pulling numbers out his ass.

4. Ask him
Edited on Tue Jul-26-11 05:30 PM by Mz Pip
if he would like to trade places with one of those poor people who doesn't pay any taxes.

And what would he have the 47% who pay no taxes actually give up? What do they have to give up? I'm sure many of them wish they could give up being below the poverty line.

6. Warren Buffet pays less than 20%, why do you want to pay higher taxes than Warren Buffet?
"And they're totally unwilling to ask the 47% that pay NO tax to give up anything."
They have nothing left to give because the 1%er's have already taken it all.

9. I'm not sure where to find this
but I remember seeing a chart, maybe on Rachel, that showed the actual percentages in taxes that some major corporations paid. None of them were anywhere near the 35%. It was anywhere from 7% - 18%.

22. Of course. You'd have to be making more money per year in payroll income...
than most CEOs do. This person is lying.

7. You could try telling him
to pay his minimum wage employees a living wage so that they might actually earn enough to trigger tax liability.

Or you could mention the special ed worked who, after health care deductions, literally has no income to tax:
http://www.educationvotes.nea.org/2011/07/20/a-special-education-worker-talks-candidly-about-empty-paychecks-organizing/

Or you could just ignore him as a selfish prick.

10. If he's really in the top 20%, he's a parasite.
If they're not hiring in America, if they're not making capital investments in America, in short IF THEY'RE NOT CONTRIBUTING TO THE ECONOMY in America then they're a burden on it.

I sent him a copy of the chart I posted above with this message.

Take a look at this chart. I bet you the people on the bottom still pay a higher rate of taxes out of their income than you do even though they pay a less rate in income taxes. Why? Because they make so little and still have to pay sales taxes, gas taxes and those other taxes. I bet from the little income they do earn that they end up paying a higher rate of taxes vs their income than you do.

Maybe you would like to trade places with those 47%?

12. They are just being lawful citizens?
"About 47 percent will pay no federal income taxes at all for 2009. Either their incomes were too low, or they qualified for enough credits, deductions and exemptions to eliminate their liability. That's according to projections by the Tax Policy Center, a Washington research organization."

Yes I agree let's be fair , Let's make those who pay Zero Taxes like GE Exxon , News Corp, B of A , etc etc etc
pair their Fair share. I'm sick of My tax dollars going to them. While we are talking about Fairness those millionaires and Billionaires with their fancy accountants paying 15% on their income while the rest of us pay closer to 30% is a super swell deal according to Republican Teabaggars in Congress who are protecting those who Pay Zero Taxes.

Let's get Real shall we anyone who supports holding America hostage while betting on America's Failure by shorting treasuries to the advantage of the Yen over the Dollar will continue to support Republican Teabaggars. Just ask Eric Cantor about it , every time the Dollar drops he makes a bundle yet he represents America in Congress? personally I think he represents he selfish greedy interests.

Who are you betting on China or America ? Republicans in Congress are betting on China ! Make your Choice!

I hate cuts yet am Willing to accept them if there is also revenue added. When I have a bill to pay, I need revenue.
The Debt Ceiling is about the Bills that we owe it is not about more spending. Republicans know this yet still lie about who created the debt . Nothing is spent in Government w/o Congressional Approval, so Congress Spent this money that we owe. Not the President Not the Senate CONGRESS . And now they want to for the first time in American History attempt to destroy the American Way ! We PAY OUR BILLS , we are not deadbeats . Why on earth would anyone listen to these Republican Teabaggars who seek to Undermine the American Way?

Clean Vote Nothing Else Just Pay The Bills Already and Quit holding America Hostage in an attempt to STEAL from the Middle Class once again.

17. Its really simple
The rich control all the fucking wealth, so why shouldn't they pay most of the tax burden. Most families dont pay income tax because THEY ARE TOO FUCKING POOR!

19. The upper 20% have 80% of the wealth in the country.
The bottom 20% have 0.4% of the wealth. The bottom 50% have 2.5% of the wealth.

http://www.businessinsider.com/15-charts-about-wealth-and-inequality-in-america-2010-4#half-of-america-has-25-of-the-wealth-2 has a good graph.

It's visual and hits pretty hard.

There was a better one somewhere, but this took 15 seconds and my googlefu being not so strong this afternoon.

It's a smoother argument than what my Debate coach in the 80s used to tell us when we debated him--the upper 20% have a far, far greater stake in status quo than the bottom 20% (then--now it's 50%).

Another thing to remind people is that Welfare "Reform" caused this by shifting a great deal of the Welfare into tax benefits for the working poor.

21. Chances are this douche isn't paying 40% income tax...
If you're including the FICA taxes, then you are probably not making enough money to have most of it taxed at the highest marginal rate.

24. Tell him that the term "wage earner" is now a redundancy.
Like I keep saying - the only people who earn wages are CEOs. We get what's left of the scraps. And this whole tax thing - look at the people who don't pay taxes are the upper 1%.
