There's an interesting possibility, even a likelihood, we may see unfold over the coming days. And if it happens, we might find out quickly whether there's a limit past which consensus opinion, the Wall Street/business interests who hold such a sway over national politics and even elements within the GOP will not indulge this mania.

I mentioned before that it's not clear whether John Boehner even has the votes for his own plan in the chamber he runs. In other words, will House Republicans even support Boehner's plan, the plan of their nominal leader, let alone anything that would pass the Senate or garner the president's signature?

At that point everyone should be able to see there aren't two sides here to tango, we're listening to the sound of one hand compromising.

The scenario being floated informally now by a lot of observers is that if and when we come to that point Republicans in the Senate, Wall Street and just a lot sane people in general who haven't come off the sidelines yet or haven't really been paying attention just say: Dude, you don't have a full deck, this is over.

Why the Boehner plan will have to fail in the House (or even just the Senate) before the debt crisis end game becomes clear.

1. We've seen this movie a lot recently... work everyone up with fear, then pull a last minute deal out
the hat, over the weekend.

works like a "charm" every time.

2. "...the sound of one hand compromising."

VERY clever, and sadly true. Sigh.

7. Yep. It's plain to see that
DC is a 1 party town. We the People vote Democratic, but we're being deceived by those who campaign as Democrats. They're all in cahoots working together for THEIR common good, not ours.

9. Boner's End Game...
Boner's a corporate guy through and through...back from his days of handing out tobacco company money on the house floor. He knows if there's a default his party will get the blame. He's trying hard right now to slime the Democrats to go along with some of the draconian teabaggery but the clock is running out and a deal has to get done.

I'm betting there's already a backroom deal done with Hoyer and Reid to get the needed Democratic votes in the House & Senate to get a last minute deal done. I heard Hoyer earlier this morning asked if there've been back channel talks going on and he said there were. Boner's on the spot and he's trying to find an opening where he can make the deal or to be able to deliver enough GOTB votes (along with Democrats). The rub right now is any bill calling for cuts to entitlements won't have enough Democratic votes. So the games go on...
