National Call-in Day, July 27, 2011

Action Alert

If you haven't yet called your Representative and Senators, Wednesday July 27th is definitely the time to do so.

Tell Congress: NO Cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security!

Congress needs us urgently. There are good people in Congress who have heard nothing but spin from corporate interests and the wealthy. They believe that we can't ask high-income earners and huge corporations to pay their fair share of taxes. They don't know we have to cut our deficit by winding down the wars and cutting defense spending. They think cutting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid would solve problems, even though those cuts would hurt the economy, kill jobs, and make healthcare cost more--not less--driving up the deficit and debt!

They need to know that the proposed cuts would badly hurt people on Social Security, make it even harder to get Medicaid, and increase costs to Medicare patients. These cruel proposals would undermine the economy and devastate the American people. We need your member of Congress and Senators to stand up against proposed cuts. We need you to tell them we have better ideas! More at https://www.capwiz.com/pdamerica/callalert/index.tt?alertid=51625501">link.

2. I hear their boxes are already full and the switchboard is jammed. Funny thing
is that all these calls won't make a difference

4. I'd bet my paycheck that they keep their mailbox sizes small on purpose.

6. I'm not so sure that the calls don't matter.

Right now, there is an http://www.randirhodes.com/pages/rrnews.html?feed=393046&article=8823300">Operation Baby Blue Blanket in the works.

"Congress looks at us as a bunch of babies, and they don't pay any attention to the baby unless the baby is crying. And if the baby is crying then all of a sudden they think, "Damn, I got to get up, the baby is crying." If the baby is sleeping quietly (and most of the people out here are), then they just think "OK, well, I can go about my business. Time to have a glass of wine and smoke a bowl and watch TV."

Randi Rhodes has talked about this many times and she swears that when the legislators get inundated with calls, emails, regular mail, etc. that they are forced to pay attention. She's asked her radio guests about this and they say the same thing. They get very nervous when they receive a lot of opposing communication.

This PDA Action Alert is specifically for July 27, but I'm going to keep calling until this is over. The boxes may be full now but I'll keep trying. I've also got a bunch of postcards that I send them from time to time.
