although it depends on the context. 10 years ago, traveling nurse agencies were signing up nurses and sending them to be scab workers at hospitals where unionized nurses were striking for better conditions. They weren't told they'd be brought in as strike breakers but they were told a lot about how they'd be sued if they broke their contracts for any reason.

In this case, yes I would. It doesn't have to be anything fancy-a pack of diapers or a gift card to Walmart.
Throw ten bucks on a gift card for Walmart and tell them it's there for whatever they need. At least you didn't spend any time thinking about it, yet it's one of the most practical gifts the person will receive.
