You can follow the links and try to create your own scenario, but the point is that prioritizing is pretty much impossible.

This Is What Gets Defunded If The Treasury Has To Prioritize Payments

It's been assumed -- but never confirmed -- that if we hit the debt ceiling, that The Treasury could prioritize payments, continuing to make bond coupon payments and entitlements, while shutting off other spending.

The Bipartisan Policy Center has put together a presentation http://www.bipartisanpolicy.org/sites/default/files/Debt%20Ceiling%20Analysis%20FINAL.pdf on the debt ceiling, and what prioritization would look like (via Stone Street Advisors)...

1. They wouldn't follow that scenario
There's no way they'd leave active duty pay off the list of highest priorities.

4. Exactly, that is the point of the article, but the 4 paragraph rules make

that impossible to convey. You have to go to the link and read the pdf. It has a link at the end where you can try to prioritize it yourself just to see how impossible it is.

3. Drop the Defense Vendor Payments.
What are they gonna do, repo their weapons?

"Excuse me, most powerful military in the world, but since you stopped payment, we need to take back those tanks."

5. There are alot of people working for Lockheed and Boeing.
Essentially, all those people won't get paid.

8. You are assuming that after nine + years of war time funding....
these giants are cash poor.

If these companies choose to stiff their workers it won't be because they don't have the funds to pay them.

7. Yeah why would you fund defense vendor payments and not the active military?
That makes no sense!

11. Because defense vendors are VALUABLE PPL and active military are CANNON FODDER.
Sickening, but that's how they think of us.

After seeing an Army sergeant friend of mine put in the ground on Monday, I am white-hot with anger over all this bullshit.

12. great summary. wonder if and when someone will
decide if Treasury has the legal authority to prioritize. That's
still up in the air, isn't it? Seems like it would take forever
just to figure out the authority issue. So, I bet paying by
due date will be what will happen
