The Money Guys Want to Talk to Boehner
It's gone on long enough. Foreigners are starting to short the dollar. Pretty soon the rating agencies will carry through with their threats.

When the money guys get Boehner on the phone they're going to say, Tell your kids we're pulling out. Boehner will take a few of these phone calls, then a few more. Boehner's not a high-pressure guy. By now he knows who he's going to have to lean on, and who won't budge no matter what he does. The money guys don't care which is which, but at the end of the day there won't be a default.

"Get John Boehner on the Phone."

4. There is a military analogy here.

During the siege of Dien Bien Phu in the 1950s, the French were trapped by the Vietnamese in a couple of small landing zones. This battle had devolved into fortification and static lines, with no movement. As the situation became more dire, more and more French soldiers deserted. But they couldn't run away, because the Viet Minh would kill them if they were caught, so the deserters, who eventually equaled or even outnumbered the French defenders, led a precarious existence in the shell-holes of the contested ground between the French and the Vietnamese.

Both sides continued their business as usual. But because the deserters represented a threat to both sides seeking a resolution of the conflict, they received extra punishment in the form of shelling and bombardment from both sides. Some evidence suggests that the French even assisted Viet Minh mortar shelling by placing a barrage of their own between themselves and the area being shelled by the other side, so that the deserters had no safe place to go.

A shelling from both sides is now what freshmen Republicans in the House can expect over the next two days. And not one effing person in Washington cares if they survive or not.

So that will be fun to watch.

6. Perhaps more than a few small investors who have been forced
into the stock market by way of retirement plans etc. should make the same call.

8. Magical thinking
I think a lot of leftists are about to learn that they've grossly overestimated the influence of "the money guys," or greatly misunderstood their purposes. It is amusing, however, to see so many people on the Left believing that the big money interests will save them.
