Tell Gov. Walker To Stop Disenfranchising Voters |
|
As soon as conservatives rose to power after the November 2010 elections it became clear almost immediately they planned on using this rise to try and hamstring Democrats chances come November 2012.
Of all the power grabs, the pernicious spread of Voter ID bills is perhaps the most offensive. Propped up by unsubstantiated claims of “voter fraud”, Wisconsin was perhaps the most aggressive in pushing through voter restriction measures, including Voter ID. That includes Gov. Walker’s latest attempts at literally closing the polls on voters.
According to reports, the Walker administration is working on finalizing a plan to close as many as 10 officers where people can obtain driver’s licenses in order to expand hours elsewhere and come into compliance with new requirements that voters show photo ID at the polls. At least one Democratic lawmaker has noted the offices targeted for closure are all in areas that trend Democratic, while those offices with expanding hours reside in Republican districts.
The motive is so obvious as to be absurd: make it more difficult for Democratic voters to get the required ID to vote while making easier for Republicans.
The voters of Wisconsin deserve better, and you can help.
