Not enough sunshine is putting millions of us at risk from diabetes
A lack of sunshine is putting millions of people at risk of diabetes because they don't have enough vitamin D, researchers have said.

A large study found that people with plenty of it in their system were less likely to develop type 2 diabetes.

The research, carried out in Australia, could play a major role in combating the condition which has been increasing in recent years.

Researchers at Melbourne Pathology tested the blood of 5,200 people and established that for every extra 25 nanomoles of vitamin D in the blood the chance of getting diabetes was reduced by 24 per cent.

3. I wonder if part of the connection here might be that a lack
of vitamin D leads to depression, and when depressed, feeling tired, blah, we reach for sugar, sugar, and more sugar?

4. I've been struggling to get sunshine
I need the sun to help fight off full body psoriasis, but i live in Portland, Or and so it is quite a frustrating endeavor. It is currently in the mid 50's with cloud cover. I lay out in my backyard on those rare days when there is a big yellow orb in the sky, but it has not been often enough. Help me.

6. Trader Joe's supplements are reasonably priced..
....and I feel okay about the quality. Their D capsules are nice little orbs, easy to swallow.

I'm sorry to hear about your psoriasis. Have you been reading about turmeric?

5. Some medications warn about sun exposure.....catch 22.
for years we have been told to avoid sun exposure because of cancer concerns, because of some medications, etc.
and lifestyles have more of us indoors a lot ( who the hell wants to go outside in 110 heat index this summer?)
and oh yeah, now the radiation concerns.

fortunately, there are Vit. D-3 supplements.

but still, 15 min a day of sun exposure is suggested as all we need for Vit. D. allowance.
