Boner and his ilk represent what passes for the "moderate" Republican, nowadays: they *created* the Teabaggers (who are nothing but a re-branding of Nixon's "Southern Strategy", remember), and now have to deal with the pinheads. Had to end this way, basically:

1. Brilliant Democratic strategy move: 1964 Civil Rights act. Any political party that could smash Jim Crow was essentially guaranteed to own the Black/Non-racist White vote, for at least the next few election cycles.

2. Faustian GOP bargain move: pandering to so-called "Reagan Democrats" (Dixiecrats/reactionaries), Fundie Christians, and the "Patriot-Movement" types. That was bound to end badly.

When you spend thirty years fine-tuning your "movement" to align with psychopaths, you end up with a bunch of psychopaths. Michelle Bachman comes to mind.

Way to go, Boner! (Gonna be fun watching it all burn, folks!) :)
