Emergency Team Of 8th-Grade Civics Teachers Dispatched To Washington

With lawmakers still at an impasse over increasing the debt ceiling, a special team of 40 eighth-grade civics teachers was air-dropped into Washington earlier today in a last-ditch effort to teach congressional leaders how the government’s legislative process works. “We started them off with the basics, like the difference between a senator and a representative, and then moved on to more complex concepts, like what a resolution is,” Bozeman, MT social studies teacher Heidi Rossmiller told reporters as all 535 members of Congress copied down the definition of “checks and balances” from a whiteboard in the House chamber. “It’s been a bit of an uphill battle, since most of them seemed to have no real sense of how or why a bill is passed, and Sen. Reid had to come up to me during a break and ask, ‘Ms. Rossmiller, what happens if Congress can’t reach a compromise?’ But hopefully it will all start to sink in soon.” At press time, an unruly House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) had noisily stormed out of a lecture on bipartisan cooperation, claiming it was “too hard.”

3. I see they are sending in the special forces.

They could have just stuck with reserve forces (substitute teachers) and still did better than what we have in D.C. right now.

Rec.

I have read in a while. Probably because I could tell it was satire in the first sentence. There have been too many lately that have been so scary close to truth I couldn't tell at first.

Very funny. Thank you.

7. The photo is priceless.
However, I must say that my eighth grade teachers looked nothing like that. My homeroom teacher's nickname was "Bulldog Mauer." She was clearly from a planet other than Earth, I assure you.

10. Oh, I think I know her...or one from the same planet
in 8th grad, our teacher liked to brag that her husband was a hitler youth.

And she alternated between two pairs of pants. every day we would joke "will it be the grey pants again?"

I heard that she ended up in a mental hospital. Really easy to believe.

13. The sad thing is that teachers are in Washington right now
fighting to save the institution of public education that has been under attack by both parties.
