As brought up on Daily Kos:

A reminder: What is stochastic terrorism?
"Stochastic terrorism is the use of mass communications to stir up random lone wolves to carry out violent or terrorist acts that are statistically predictable but individually unpredictable."
Stochastic terrorism is like Russian Roulette, except the right-wingers in the media aren't pointing the guns at their own heads, but at ours. It's stochastic in that each attempt to stir up an incident only has a random chance of resulting in an actual incident, and you don't know when and where the next incident will take place. All we know is that more incidents are probable as more right-wing media activity is broadcast with the purpose of inciting violence.
Think Radio Rwanda. Think Sarah Palin saying "Lock and load." Think Glenn Beck's repeated violent insinuations (and damn, I'm so fucking glad he's no longer on FOX "News".) Think Rush Limbaugh saying "Don't kill all the liberals, leave a couple in each campus as living fossils!"
So while I absolutely acknowledge Breivik's direct responsibility for his murders, and leave it to Norway's justice system to see to it, I say that Breivik also functioned as a bullet, used by right-wingers in the media and the halls of power as a weapon against their political enemies. Fired out of their metaphorical revolver at left-wing individuals and groups across the world.
