Is it possible?
Is it possible that Obama does not want to indicate that he will invoke the 14th amendment in order to prevent the repigs from coming to their senses and accepting his 100% giveaway?

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney again ruled out the possibility of Obama using the 14th Amendment to resolve the debt dispute.

"Our position hasn't changed," Carney said during his Wednesday briefing. "There are no off-ramps. ... Only Congress has the legal authority."

That is, he will invoke the 14th amendment when time has run out and there is no other way of raising the debt ceiling? If he "shows them his hand", the nutjobs might cut their losses and agree to something that will devastate the economy. Meanwhile, he will have demonstrated being reasonable up to the last minute.

I know I am giving Obama a lot of credit, but can't a guy wish?

4. There is no 14th Amendment remedy.
The 14th Amendment nowhere authorizes the Executive branch to usurp Congress' authority under Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution to raise revenues and borrow money. It doesn't even say that the United States will pay its debts, only that the validity of lawfully authorized debt will not be questioned.

it's weird hearing about it on TV like it's such a no-brainer that nobody needs to even bother explaining it to the public.

7. +1
IMO it would be a huge mistake for BHO to attempt to do so. I'm sure this 'option' has never been on the table

6. The idea that there's some grand plan or design to all this
is looking less and less likely by the second.

8. It'll certainly be crickets around here if the problem gets fixed
somehow. There'll be so many many sad people. After the grief, they will tell us how bad Obama fucked up.

10. "wish" is another word for "hope". We should have recognized that earlier. nt
