I am SO ready for these wars to end, and for our people (and our money)
to come back home again.

Anyone else feeling this way?

1. Considering it was the two wars and tax-breaks for millionaires that put us in this predicament...
YES!!! End the wars and return to pre-Reaganesque tax rates!

2. Glad I am not the only one who feels this way! I have two kids and we have been at
war for as long as they can remember. :(

3. It won't happen
GreenPartyVoter, those Afghanistanis happen to be living in mountainous areas incredibly rich in minerals 'we' need in order to manufacture I-pads, Blackberries and flatscreen TVs. They have to be 'civilised' so they can get to work mining lithium and rare earths. At a certain point we'll have a minimal military presence. ;) But business is hiring like crazy to start the infrastructure in country to facilitate the future enterprises. A friend has contacts with a couple of mercs. My friend sometimes shows me how much the international merc type companies are hiring to set up self-sufficient compounds in Afghanistan. They hire everybody from IT specialists to doctors and medics. The companies like Northrop Grunmann are staying in Afghanistan for the future. Remember John McCain predicted "100 years"?

4. Yeah, that's been my fear all along. That it's always been about resources.

8. GreenPartyVoter, the US and the UK are there to pacify Afghanistan
It's a major slog. I started googling and found lots of info. It appears Indian nationals will be the primary working presence. The IMF is engineering the 'plan' to finance the mining development. China already has contracts. It appears what the US is trying to do is pay the warlords enough to make get their people to start behaving themselves and 'go with the flow'. The most important plan to facilitate the mining is a railway infrastructure. The Afghanis have to be pacified so they won't blow it up.

I don't see the USA leaving. It's mission was never really about getting Bin Laden. The mission was to pacify Afghanistan. The Soviet Union softened them up. Maybe the Soviets might have won if the US hadn't been arming the mujahadeen with shoulder fired missiles to bring down aircraft and mines to explode Soviet tanks.

10. Some people think it will, though. There are resources to protect and all, and lies to
be upheld. *sigh*

9. Considering the bullshit levels, pointless killing and the consequential seeding of hatred
and the complete waste of public dollars for the benefit of private interests, I see no rational disagreement.
