Outrageous gadget of the night: $8 million iPad encased in T-Rex bones
If you thought the $499 entry-level iPad 2 price was already too high, then you won't believe what this custom version is going for. Since I know that so many of us are millionaires, then you'll be happy to know that Geekologie has brought this special iPad 2 Gold Edition to our attention, courtesy Stuart Hughes, and can be yours for a rather affordable price of roughly $8 million.

Right about now you're probably asking yourself, "What can possibly make this magical product so expensive?" The answer is simple: diamonds, stone over 75 million years old, and sections from the thigh of a tyrannosaurus rex.

4. It's not that this exists that bothers me.
What bothers me is that this only exists because its producers know it will be bought.

The fact that this will be bought by someone, somewhere, is what bothers me. There is no sane, rational reason to own this unless money is just a way of keeping score to you. If you have that much money, you can afford this.

Something is very wrong right now. Desperately wrong. We need to identify it and take steps to fix it before everyone loses everything.

13. Yes, art

Is your name Art, or are you unfamiliar with the word?

This is a hat:

It is the hat the monarch of England wears at certain times.

To some people, at a certain level of artisanship, an object like the hat above is more a piece of art than it is a piece of headwear.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

11. A $2,000 a day cocaine habit is a much more productive use of your money
perhaps with some $1,000 a night hookers' asses to snort it off of.

Seriously. What the fuck.

After all, this is still a fucking IPAD 2! If this were some sort of state of the art, holographic, 3 dimensional, super futuristic device straight out of Star Trek then I could see the point in buying it.

This thing will be obsolete in six months anyways. I guess Hamad back in the UAE could buy it though.

14. I just can't comprehend how anyone could spend this kind
of money on anything at all...Picasso or DaVinci or yacht or anything...and actually go to sleep soundly at night, while children can't eat or have clean water and grandma's can't afford meds and food.

How can such people be HUMAN? I just can NOT NOT NOT understand. Frankly, I don't want to.

18. Job creators!
That 8 million taken off the top from salaries and taxes went to create 3 temp jobs @ a computer co! What? You think the money is better spent paying for 200 poor geniuses' college educations? Hell no! Some rich trustfund dood got a badass iPad! Way preferable!

25. That's why I think we need a 100% tax on luxury goods like this.
No one should be paying $8 million for an iPad until our economy is turned around.

21. 4.4 lbs of 24 ct gold, 1.6 lbs of Ammolite, various diamonds, + 1.3 lbs iPad 2
It's about six times as heavy as an ordinary iPad 2

Have the butler carry the iPad downstairs, and enter it on the marble pedestal in the greenhouse in case madam should fancy shopping for rare orchids on the internet after brunch

23. Seriously, I thought this was going to be about the ARM chip.
The ipad is certainly powered by a dinosaur of a processor, but it's no t-rex, more like a microraptor. The ARM chip in the iPad is only modestly improved from the same family of ARM chips that appeared in the Apple Newton about twenty years ago.

It really gets my goat that despite (or perhaps because of) decades of die-shrinks and thousands of performance and efficiency advances by chip-makers since 1992, the very slowest and least powerful chips from the 1990s still dominate the market today simply because they're a small percentage less expensive.

What can you people do with those things? Does video playback look like a slide show? Does Flash even run on them yet?

26. Yeah...it's an obnoxious way to waste money.
But, it IS kinda pretty. And, having a piece of a T-Rex would be even better than the amber encased mosquito (or any other buggy) no one ever gave me for my bday.

But, stupid. Even if I had all of Bill Gates' money.
