Why don't people run on that anymore?

1. I guess you haven't been watching Obama visiting US companies over the past two years & a half years

to promote American manufacturing and technology.

It's a shame that the news media doesn't report on it more.

2. Yeah he stops off at a plant now and again.
But he hasn't put together carrots and sticks to grow it much and he hasn't done much for our trade agreements. Remember Gore was tasked with supporting NAFTA against Perot? Maybe we went down the wrong path.

4. Well ....
if the democrats had a 'true majority' in the Senate more than only 49 days (in his first two years) then Obama could have gotten a lot more done than what he has been able to do so far.

With everything in the Senate taking 60 votes to invoke cloture, due to the GOP's obstruction, it's been an up hill battle.

Ya know that Senator Al Franken wasn't sworn in until July 2009 and Senator Kennedy died in August 2009 - that make it only 49 days with a real majority which isn't much time.

6. He was spot on about the great sucking sound
Too bad he was about as personable as a rabid poodle.

My apologies in advance to poodles.

8. The most important info is in DU's Economy forum
Edited on Thu Jul-28-11 04:29 AM by Mimosa
Friends, sometimes we get frustrated ands we snip and snark at fellow DUers. We aren't really in opposition with each other. Most of our arguments emanate from close differences. We're not all that far apart.

For instance, I've found Tex4 and I are often closer on the issues than either of us usually expect *until we open up and discuss with just one or two interchanges.* WE have to keep finding common ground. Fighting each other will serve the interests of Rethugs. Tex is really nice and not condescending or snooty. :)

Today on DU I came across the most informative series EVER which sort of got buried in DU's 'Economy' forum. I had never quite understood there was a well crafted tax code enacted 20 or so years ago which made offshoring manufacturing the only *profitable* option for American manufacturers. I recall Obama had hinted the policies might be able to be revised to encourage big business to bring jobs back to America.

Here's the first installment on DU's Economy forum which explains the tax laws in language we can understand. There are 3 other sections. What the topics show is the tax code encouraged manufacturing relocation. The tax laws told companies they are better off keeping their investments, assets and profits offshore. Their losses they can still deduct. It's complicated but understandable.

Part I on How American Manufacturing Outsourced our jobs:

Part II on How American Manufacturing Outsourced Our Jobs:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=114x88802

The rest of the series continue on DU's Economy forum: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=114 (This is where the smartest people post. Some is a bit hard to understand but I've found the DUers posting there are generous in helping answer questions. :) I'm PROUD of US, all together. :)

Nowhere else but DU could we get such pertinent information in one place. We're really all together except for minor differences. If we learn to understand what the politicos have been doing to serve the powerful, we can use that knowledge to demand changes. :D

10. Perot and Nader agreed: no free trade. And they were both wrong.
Free trade is the best system to maximize economic growth, increase jobs and promote peace in the world.
