GOP lawmaker advises poor to ‘drop out of the country club’
Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) may have won the contest for the worst analogy of the entire debt ceiling debate.

The tea party favorite told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Wednesday that he wanted to lower the debt ceiling because when you’re broke, you have to cut back on certain luxuries.

"Well, Andrea, the thing is, when someone is overextended and broke, they don’t continue paying for expensive automobiles; they sell the expensive automobiles and buy a cheaper one," Broun explained. "They don’t continue paying for country club dues, they drop out of the country club."

You can see the video at the link below.

2. like the poor are in fucking country clubs... and the poor don't own expensive cars...
they are driving cars that they couldn't get $1000 for. if they sold it, they wouldn't be able to use the money to get anything else and then they wouldn't be able to get to work. sounds like someone who is out of touch with reality and real people. he probably is a member of a country club so that would make sense to him.

24. We are not rich. We are dirt poor ignorant rednecks.
Yours truly excluded, of course.

But seriously, this is not a rich district. And we even have a nice blue blob on one end. (Yay! Athens rules!)
But this moron keeps getting re-elected anyway.

16. This "excess wealth" preaching to the poor is more like:
I'd rather throw my leftovers in the garbage than to see your family eat.

If there isn't one already, there should be. With at least two categories 1) congressional and 2) media.

20. Great anology, lets start by deeply slashing funding for the MIC and bring the troops home
Oh wait, the unspoken reality of it is that pulling the troops out would cause our unemployment rate to rise dramatically, not good for the economy nor for their re-election chances, so we're screwed either way, as the "unfettered" free-market global corporate capitalists have made enlisting in our military a more and more desireable alternative for HS and college grads instead of facing the ever-increasingly bleak probability of remaining unemployed or underemployed for the long-term, good job, Rethugs!!

22. Stop buying the Kraft Macaroni and Cheese and get the generic one ...
Hey, I buy the generic caviar now. What I did was to save the good caviar tins and put the generic ones in it.

The opera club doesn't even notice the difference.

23. I don't think he's talking about the actual POOR.
I believe he's referring to the RICH who are "too poor" to keep up the lifestyles to which they have become accustomed.
