I have a rant about House Speakers, yes plural |
|
Bake when we were ostensibly the majority (couldn't tell from the behavior) I called Nancy Pelosi's office and they wouldn't take my message because I wasn't a constituent of her district. I schooled them at the time that as the Speaker, all of us become her constituents. It was a long call and I wish I had written it down verbatim because I feel like I just went through a form of Groundhog Day. I called Boner's office and was once again grilled about whether I lived within his constituency. Thank the Goddess, I do not, but since he is now the Weeper of the House, all of America is his constituents. It was another long conversation and I think they only took my statement when it was clear I wasn't going to give in.
Sheesh!

1. Wow, so am I the only person whose ever had to deal with this |
|
I don't think it's the least bit inappropriate to call the House Speaker on such important issues as this debt ceiling fiasco.

3. You aren't the only one |

But my experience was with the Senate Majority Leader. Same thing happened but through their email system. I don't live in NV - had to looks up a NV zip code to input before my email could be sent.

6. No you are not the only person. I have been thinking the same thing |
|
for a long time. If they do not want us to use their state related site then we should have telephone, fax, addresses and email addresses for all officers of congress and all committees. When they hold a position that effects us all then we have a right to contact numbers. If they will not give them to us we should keep a resource listing here on DU somewhere. It would definitely help when it comes to activism.

2. you make a very good point. i have never thought about it that way. |
|
if they are the speaker of the house, then they control things for the whole country thus they should have to field calls from people who are not even in their damned district!! that should go for people who head committees too. they control the things that are dealt with on committees so they should have to hear from us too. like that peter king asshole. and his mccarthyesque witch hunt for muslims.

4. Which office did you call? The Speaker's phone is 202-225-0600 and Rep. Boehner's |

is 202-225-6205. They are two separate offices.

5. Did you call their local or DC offices? And, I've learned to LIE - |

My e-mails say "Although not currently a constituent, I'm moving to your district in September (or whatever) which is why I'm paying attention to your votes".
I've also looked up zip codes within a congressperson's district, and try to find out the area where the most well-to-do live.
Hey, it's warfare!
I SO agree with you, they represent us ALL, but since they don't seem to agree, I just lie and let them think s/he is my rep.
I have no shame.
