If Obama nailed the problem and New York Times covered would anyone notice? |
|
Or would people be too busy trashing him to notice? It's the media , stupids. In particular, right-wing radio. Millions listen to Rush as they sit ensnared in Rush hour. Politicians have to bend their words and policies to appease the talking heads on cable news as well as for network TV shows. Obama is absolutely right, and it is a huge problem that is addressed here on DU in ongoing complaints about the right-wing media. Yet, any calls for the Fairness Doctrine seem to fall by the wayside here. And there. Alternative media is a wonderful thing, but at the end of the day the typical voter gets his/her info from the Teevee, and millions more from the radio, ie, Limbaugh.
Perhaps the Fairness Doctrine isn't perfect, but an attempt to bring it back might just open up the dialogue and spread awareness and help in creating something that IS effective.
It's not enough to advise people to just "change the channel".

1. the only widely available channel that covers Republican hypocrisy/lies/bullshit is |
|
MSNBC at night.
Right wing has a huge campaign to discredit/marginalize Rachel Maddow for that very reason.
