"A British mother whose 8-year-old daughter was abducted and murdered in 2000 may have been targeted by the News of the World's investigator, the Guardian newspaper alleged Thursday.

Investigators said they have found evidence in a private detective's notes believed to be linked to a phone allegedly gifted to Sara Payne by then-News of The World editor Rebekah Brooks to help her stay in touch with her supporters, the Guardian reported.

In a statement, Brooks called the allegations "abhorrent" and "particularly upsetting" because she considered Sara Payne a "dear friend", the newspaper reported.

The allegation follows the disclosure that the paper had hacked and deleted voicemails of another murdered schoolgirl, Milly Dowler..."

There's something about Murdoch that I'm beginning to get a hold on. His tabloids appeal to primordial urges and fascination with the perverse suffering of innocents. He and his confederates are playing according to some ancient rules. Even his name suggests Moloch and ritual child sacrifice.
