Prediction time... to save the economy
or the village, the Republicans will "win," and yes, burn the village.

The austerity plan will go into place. THe RIGHT WING social agenda will get pushed forth.

They will get the WH in 2012... they may or may not take the Senate, but probably will lose the House.

The economy will be destroyed... in ways that unintended consequences (they do not intend this) tells us.

And out of the ashes something else will emerge. What will emerge I have no clue... but given what happened in Wisconsin... I suspect there are some really bumpy times ahead for all of us.

1. my prediction. both bills fail to pass the House, Obama either gets a clean bill or does it himself
via the 14th or some other plan.

It's either that or we default, and I dont think the Prez will let that happen

2. That is true but the austerity plan is coming
and that alone will do things to the economy that will destroy the village to save it.

As to the rating agencies, the downgrade already started abroad.

3. Whatever happens IMO this is just the tip of the iceberg, it validates just how
fractured our country is.

7. Yep, absolutely
And the dysfunction leads to a non working government... I will not go so far as to call it a failed state... but it is actually close.

4. I don't think so
I think Obama will win again but I think the republicans will keep most of their seats. I don't think the economy will be destroyed either. I think we will face lots of changes and that by 2020 or so things will have gotten much better. Its a long ten years away but still in the big picture its only ten years.

8. And the austerity plan will do that number
my friend. You do not spend your way out of a recession. It could very well sink us into a depression.

10. Curious
What economic mechanism do you see improving things by 2020? I can see us improved by 2020, but only after a much, much, worse double dip episode.

11. I can't tell for certain what it will be it's just a feeling based on my own intuition
but I think Americans may take manufacturing back and start to invent things that are helpful for the planet.

The children/young people of today will be the leaders of the future and they are much smarter than most of us give them credit for. We may hit harder times but we don't have to be afraid if we start to manage our lives with the entire plant in mind. We are all in this together and we need to start thinking this way.

12. When things get bad enough manufacturing will come back
let's worst case this, shall we? As the dollar leaves the reserve currency status it will slide, precipitously, versus other currencies. It will lose that nice shinny powerful currency smell. In a macro level... it will be cheaper for the corporations to move production back to the US... yes, worst case scenario our work force will be cheaper, or close enough (when you add transportation cost) to make it non cost effective for Nike to run factories in South East Asia.

Yes, this is very much a worst case scenario, but this is one way manufacturing will come back... it is a macro level and not a happy one.

Tin foil hat moment. the movers and shakers understand this and why they are attacking labor so actively.

No, my gut tells me that out of the ashes something very different will emerge though processes they have not planned for... see the Midwest.

5. I agree 100%
Obama's adoption of the austerity meme guarantees the results you say. We are in for a rough ride. Rougher than in living memory and the MSM and the corporate media are not going to be able to cover it up.

6. Obama also wants an austerity plan
The elites are determined to slash social programs no matter how damaging it will be to our economy.
