What Rep. Dan Lundgren (R-California) just said
I was watching the debate on the boner-bill in the House on CSPAN. Republican Dan Lundgren who unfortunately is from the same state as my own, California, said that every economist of any repute is of the opinion that one must not raise taxes on the wealthy during these times of recession. Does anyone know any major economists who believe that the so-called "job creators" are actually going to create jobs with all the tax relief they continue to enjoy? If so, why didn't they do it over the last 10 years of Bush tax cuts? Don't we have instead a situation where the rich are hoarding their money and even lending it to the U.S. Treasury rather than invest it in jobs and expansion because demand is not growing? Don't we have a demand problem rather than an arbitrarily set spending problem?

I'd like to see a joint letter authored by the major economists in this country directed to both Houses of Congress, including any Nobel Prize Winners who would care to contribute, stating that the real problem we have is one of jobs and lack of spending money in the hands of the masses. So-called job creators will only create jobs when it becomes profitable, and that point will only come when the rest of us have enough jobs and income.

1. he is a jerk
I met he one time when he became our AG and was walking through our offices meeting everyone. I shook his hand and by god the has the softest hands for a man I have ever met. It's like he never did any kind of work in his life.

2. Lundgren is known to be a pathological liar.
he lies when it would be easier to tell the truth. He lies as easily as you and I breathe. The only people who ever believe him are those who believe their own outrageous lies.

6. Key words: "every economist of any repute"
Remember - anyone who does not agree with the party line is not reputable! It may be a list of the 2 or 3 that do agree - or are paid to agree....

Here's a letter signed by 320 economists - against budget cuts.
More than 300 Economists Repudiate Right-Wing "So Be It" Economics

8. Thanks - I note a date of March 1st of that letter
I haven't heard a word about this spoken on any of the "news" shows. We need to hear from experts such as these in this debt ceiling fight, not the blathering uneducated idiots appearing on cable news shows.

7. The problem is aggregate demand
And cutting taxes or increasing spending on people who will correspondingly increase their consumption is the only way to increase aggregate demand. Raising taxes on the wealthy does little to decrease aggregate demand because they generally won't spend the money. They would invest it but there is not much to invest in because demand is soft.

10. I can think of 2 that have said that ...
we should be raising taxes on the wealthy.

1) Paul Krugman
http://blog.mises.org/10011/paul-krugman-raise-taxes-spend-more-and-all-will-be-well/
Second, he (Paul Krugman) points toward the current situation, and claims that our nation’s current crisis can be “solved” by raising taxes.

2) Ravi Batra
“Economist Ravi Batra has said that this kind of disparity in wealth can only result in a depression. That is where we are now. The country will never fully recover until we address it by raising taxes on the super wealthy.

18. The other night Laurence O'Donnell was asking
Blackburn if they lie to themselves in their committees like they lie to everyone else and she looked at him very strangely. So, I suspect that they only hear what they want to hear and really believe their lies.

Another instance: Issa and group were investigating Fanny and Freddy and when they found evidence that the Dems were the ones telling the truth about the economy collapse not being because of Fanny and Freddy, instead of what they were spouting they shut down the investigation. So rather than facing the truth, they just hid it.

They lie and don't want to believe the truth.
