House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Thursday that no Democrat would support the House Republican Budget Control Act later in the afternoon, since it was drafted without any Democratic input.

"There will in fact be bipartisan opposition to this bill, but there, I predict, will be no Democrat for this bill, because bipartisanship was not sought," Hoyer said on the House floor.

"There is no common ground here, nor was it sought," Hoyer said at the start of his remarks. Hoyer was the first Democrat to speak in the planned two-hour debate on the bill.

"We find ourselves in an unprecedented place today," he said. "Americans stand on the brink of default. It stands there, my friends, because the leadership of this House has failed to act in a timely and responsible way."

4. I'm guessing Steny probably pulled the "Absolutely no support" from the Party
at election time line, finally, with shitbags like Shuler.

Finally, I say. This is the line: you wanna do all your own fund raising in a GOP district: give Boehner his bipartisan cover. You want support from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, hold the goddamn line, soldier. Period.

3. Say it loud and say it proud, Steny
Despite Boehner's grouchy "rebuttal" squirt of bile the other night, there's nothing "bipartisan" about his proposal. There was no input from Democrats, and this is indeed Republican governance by fiat. Forcing a "crisis" in hopes of passing something, anything (and coldly calculated to be disastrous) to avert the crisis they've ginned up.

I will be very surprised if the Boehner bill comes up for a vote, since it seems nearly certain to fail in the House. I think even the Mighty Republican Wurlitzer would have trouble spinning that into a positive for the GOP.
