They're Praying She Doesn't Wake Up
The GOP and their media shills are, as always, afraid of the truth. If Giffords pulls through and speaks out against RW violence and those who incite it, things are going to get really ugly, really fast.

The GOP has painted itself into a corner. If Giffords lays the blame where it belongs, they will no doubt stoop to attacking her (again).

They will say she is "politicizing" her injury and she is an opportunist, trying to capitalize on the deaths of those who were killed. How dare she speak for the deceased. Blah blah blah.

First, she needs to pull through in good health. Call me a cynic, but I know they're wishing her dead.

1. Assuming she recovers, she will have a very long road ahead of her
and her speech may even be gone, as well as some motor control.. Her survival will be #1 to her.. I doubt that she will say much.. What she said before, proves the truth of it all

2. She had already spoke out about that map.
It is in this video:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x541594

“Sarah Palin has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district and when people do that, they’ve gotta realize there are consequences to that action.”

In effect, that video already speaks out against the violent rhetoric and if you look at the date on the video, there is no way they can claim she is "politicizing" her injuries or claim she is an opportunist, trying to capitalize on the deaths of those who were killed.

4. More Projection Here Than A Movie Theater
The speculation due to the lack of real evidence is spinning speculation all over the place.

Firstly, we don't know what damage has occured...that won't become known until she starts to come out of the drug-induced coma she's in. Even then we many not know for weeks or months depending on how forthcoming the family is. The wound has to be severe and will leave lasting damage...I'm just grateful she's still alive and hope she retains enough functions to lead a somewhat normal life. I truly don't expect she'll be back in Washington any time soon, if ever.

I've heard from various "conservative" and right wingers and while there are those who are in denial and use the lack of any real evidence to play their projection games, many I've seen are aghast at what's happened, and like the rest of us are wanting more information before we start pointing fingers.

I'm as angry as anyone as to what happened, but I'll avoid rushing to judgements that may come round to bite one in the ass down the road.

8. Agreed...
While I'm not a doctor, and don't have access to her records, it doesn't take too much imagination to realize that a likely best-case scenario would be for her to wind up like James Brady -- surviving, and able to live a reasonably-normal life (although, in his case, there was a degree of physical disability) for many years, but not really able to resume a job in public service. I think it would be a miracle, literally, for her to be able to recover enough to resume her career in Congress...now, or ever.

5. There's another reason, too... AZ Repub Gov Jan Brewer would get to appt a new member
to the House of Representatives. It doesn't take much to assume that she'd appoint another Repub and we'd lose another Dem seat

7. No, the seat would not be filled by appointment
Comments by some freepers asserting that the Governor would appoint a replacement are wrong under Arizona statutes. Unless the vacancy occurs within 6 months of the next regular general election, the Governor is required by Arizona law to call a special primary and a special general election to fill the seat:

Let's hope that Rep. Giffords recovers and is able to resume her responsibilities.

10. I wonder if Eric Cantor knew that...
...when he announced a week's suspension of the House. It's hard to be uncynical enough to not think that part of his reasoning would be that, if Giffords were to pass on, they could reconvene with the G.O.P. majority increased by one.

6. Fox is praying... that she dies
(just under the surface) I'd bet. They want this to be buried and forgotten so they can count their dollars and continue on. Hard to keep in mind that they are sociopaths, but they really are and I better not forget it.

9. YOU DON'T KNOW.
And I have nothing but contempt for this smug, self-righteous dehumanizing of your opponents. As long as you are unable to credit them with any human feelings you will lose all your battles against them.

17. Smug, self-righteous dehumanizing?
A sociopath is still a human being. The idea that there are those on the RW who are sociopaths isn't even particularly controversial.

If they aren't trying to kill Democrats/liberals, why do they keep inciting these murders? Dr. Tiller, The Holocaust Museum killer, The Tides Foundation, etc. These murders are deliberately provoked.

When Dr. Tiller was shot (either of the two times it happened) was it smug to point out that there were those on the RW who hoped he didn't pull through? Was it self-righteous to assert that some RWers would consider it a victory if he died?

You won't, as you wrote, "lose all your battles" with the RW if you call them out on the craven treachery of their murderous politics.
If we shrink away from fear and allow the violence to escalate, that's how we lose. If we worry that we musn't "dehumanize" the monsters who incite murder, we have already lost.

18. I have nothing but contempt for RW propagandists who dehumanize the left, encouraging violence
But hey, if you want to show your contempt for those of us showing contempt towards the hatemongers, then so be it. It wouldn't be the first time that we've been on polar opposites of a debate.

15. Didn't they do the same thing with Jim Brady??
They hate the Brady Bill. They hate everything about the fact that you have to wait to get a gun. And they forget that Jim Brady was shot in the head and nearly died for their Saint Ronnie. How quickly they forget
