1. Why would he give up a job where he doesn't really have to work
and can come in drunk and not get fired?

That was interesting.

Boehner has forced Cantor into a position where his fingers are all over the debt ceiling. The failure of this bill on the floor would be Cantor's failure too.

Boehner's future may not be an effective one, but I don't think he'll be forced out.

5. Boehner will search deep into his mean little heart
And conclude that he's the best man, the only man, for the job and bravely step forward atop the heap of ashes and manfully blame the Democrats for all his problems. His good pals in the media, knowing where their next cocktail is likely to come from, will faithfully parrot Mr. Boehner. And all the good people of Washington will join hands and in the Bipartisan Spirit of the Ghost of David Broder will agree to blame the Democratic minority in the House for foiling the good and noble plans of Mr. Boehner.

Two hours later, the political body of John Boehner will be discovered stabbed in the back, and Eric Cantor will reluctantly come forward whilst hastily wiping away some totally unrelated blood on his hands, and accept the speakership. The media will not miss a beat in transferring their undying loyalty to Mr. Cantor.

7. I hope he doesn't. He's a huge gift to Dems.
I want him to be the orange face of the Republican Party.

8. Is the speaker position a vote of the full house or just the party with more seats?
I'd find it hilarious if we ended up with Speaker Pelosi by the end of next week. :D

10. The Speaker is elected by a vote of the full House
The votes usually break exactly along party lines, which is why the Speaker is a member of the majority. I don't know the history of the Speaker position, so I don't know if there has ever been a minority party Speaker of the House, but indeed, if Boehner falls because of his incredible obtuseness, it's just possible that enough disaffected Republicans will not support Eric Cantor (the most likely Republican candidate) and Nancy Pelosi could resume the Speaker's chair.

11. By who?
You have to give Boehner credit for forcing Cantor to his side through all of this. Cantor is the only Republican who could make a credible challenge, and his fingers are all over the debt ceiling.

I don't think Boehner's gavel is in serious danger.
