Has Obama Caved Yet?
I asked this 6 days ago, and got conflicting answers. It seems, however, that the Reid bill is a huge cave. Someone tell me it's not.

2. I'd be looking at the Republicans -- WE seem to be doing just
fine. They can't even get the votes after plying them with pizza (which I'm sure we paid for).

3. Reid bill is posturing, it has no hope in The House

Even Boehner's bill can't pass The House

This is all theater

5. Yep. If we're really lucky, they'll have to go with a clean bill
because raising the ceiling is all they agree on. But, I wouldn't bet the farm.

7. Sarcasm noted. But really...America respects strength.
Lame as they are, the tea party actually has it. Obama would have it too, if he would stop retreating.

8. I guess it depends on what you think is actually attainable at this point
I think that the Reid bill (or some variation of it) is pretty much our last best hope to get the debt ceiling raised, avoid economic catastrophe, and put another debate off the table until 2013 when, hopefully, we don't have to go through such a colossal waste of time and angst caused by the Tea Party-controlled House GOP unless enough members of Congress just decide to do what they should've done to begin with, namely passing a one sentence "clean" debt limit bill. Sadly, I do not think that that is going to happen but the Reid bill at least minimizes the fallout.

10. So a bill w/o revenue increases is a good thing?
I'm just trying to figure out what you're saying. Because even w/o the lame Reid Bill, Obama could invoke the 14th amendment and I hope he does.

12. Not a good thing
but probably the only thing passable. Maybe Obama can invoke the 14th but he's not going to tip his hand and do it before Aug. 2 IMHO.

9. Or, as Colbert put it in his intro to 7/26 show - "Showdown over the debt ceiling- Will Democrats
cave or simply crumble?"

15. He keeps trying but Republicans won't accept it.
All bills are 100% cave. People interested in the welfare of this country would just raise the ceiling like all the times before. Too bad we don't elect enough of such people in this country.
