I move that we re-label the 'Tea Party' as the 'Know-Nothing' Party
Since the teabaggers seem to love history so much, why not resurrect a defunct party name for them? I think that the Know-Nothing Party really epitomizes the teabaggers, don't you?

1. I've noticed lately that many on MSNBC have been saying "The Republican Teaparty"
quite often.

I think all the networks should be using that phrase everyday :)

2. Hrm. Need something a little more edgy and derogatory.
The I-have-no-clue-what-economics-are-or-how-government-works party is just way too long though.

6. No, actually it's a good reference

The original Know-Nothings were anti-immigration conspirators, not just a *legitimate* political party. Their name came not from their ignorance, but from the fact that when asked about their party's actions, they replied "I know nothing."

A not-bad summary here: http://law.jrank.org/pages/8005/Know-Nothing-Party.html

They show a lot of resemblance to the Tea Party movement. Not perfect correspondence, of course.

Personally I use the term "Pee Tarty" a lot.

7. Problem is the Tea Party knows something...
It's just wrong.

Like bankrupting government is going to create jobs and preserve SS/Medicare/Medicaid.

13. The platform of the Know Nothing (American) Party would please teabaggers except
for one thing:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Know_Nothing#Platform

Platform

The platform of the American Party called for, among other things:

1. Severe limits on immigration, especially from Catholic countries.
2. Restricting political office to native-born Americans of English and/or Scottish lineage and Protestant persuasion.
3. Mandating a wait of 21 years before an immigrant could gain citizenship.
4. Restricting public school teacher positions to Protestants.
5. Mandating daily Bible readings in public schools.
6. Restricting the sale of liquor.
7. Restricting the use of languages other than English.

They might tweak #1 to remove "especially from Catholic countries" and #2 to change "of English and/or Scottish lineage and Protestant persuasion" to "of European persuasion". Other than that they could use the Know Nothing platform for their 2012 convention and save the trouble of righting anything new.

I think the next-to-last platform plank would be the only one teabaggers might want to remove altogether. ;)

4. I think that the name Earwhigs might be catchy
Sort of a blend of a long defunct political party name along with a known household pest...

12. I say we use a term Bill'o The Clown likes to use.
The Pinhead Party.

Their lack of knowledge didn't stop them when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor! Or when Ronald Reagan defeated FDR to stop the New Old Socialistic Deal!

Or when that dirty Commie Bush Sr raised their taxes by selling weapons to Iran!

Or when Al Gore became President and he lost to John Boehner who abdicated in favor of Abe Lincoln!

Or when the Founding Fathers revolted over a TEA TAX and they should gather their armies!

17. They certatainly don't know about the Boston Tea Party
I just posted about this in a different thread. The Boston Tea Party was a revolt against the very things the Tea Baggers are supporting today.

18. They are all TeaPubliKlans should the factions wish to differentiate themselves
let it be by their deeds. No way in hell should they get a pass that says there is any difference till they prove such.
