1. We don't do anything. They are "expected" to be on the street corners with

signs begging for handouts, just like all Vietnam vets with PTSD. That's how much the country cares for it's vets and homeless. Sad, so sad.

Isn't it just sick that the young people have to "sign up" to get a job, and benefits. just saying........it's sad that our young people enlist and try to get ahead. D*mn.

13. That's called the 'poverty draft'

The harder it is to find work, the easier it is for military recruiters to fill quotas.

And we're also using the NG and Reserves--the ones who normally are expected to only have to do weekends and summer camps after their active duty stints. But the fine print says thay can be activated up to a total of up to 8 years.

A local Army Reserve unit in my community is being re-deployed to Afghanistan in a week or so. I normally avoid getting to know deploying troops because dealing with loss and grief can be problematic for me (I knew more than 60 guys who died in Vietnam).

But I broke down and attended one ceremony in which I presented medals to the men and women in this unit, and I'll be there with their families when they are sent off again soon. It's a transportation unit, and when I asked one of the NCO's what they transport, I wasn't expecting to be so chilled by the response: "Fuel."

Two weeks after we send these men and women back to Afghanistan we'll be doing our quarterly Stand Down for homeless vets...

9. Statistically speaking, the numbers aren't high enough to make much of a change in employment.

Also, the military isn't set up so that once you leave combat you're unemployed. You're still enlisted for what you signed up for unless some kind of discharge is given. So, really you're worrying about something that isn't a problem.

11. Also, a lot of the expense of foreign deployment has to do with supplying them.

Gas, food, water, supplies, etc. are all very expensive to send to the front. We could bring them all home and keep them on full duty here for a lot cheaper. Deploy them for natural emergencies and stuff if they're needed.

Suck it up! The "public" can pose all the hell they want to but they are constantly looking down their noses at us. It's like Jesse Ventura pointed out regarding the horrible homeless vet issue that people claim to always support the troops but they don't.

It's just not politically correct to voice disdain for us. We don't get any special treatment. Our GI Bills are absolutely worthless unless we can find school hours that will work with a job. Americans hate education and don't allow classes to be worked into schedules, yadda, yadda.

That's why - even though I'm anti-war, I wonder about that...The USSR had the same problem with demobilization of its soldiers in Afghanistan and Eastern Europe.

In the best of all worlds I believe jobs should be created to protect the environment, national parks, etc., etc....Other civil service jobs in cities as well. Many of the skills are transferable.
