me what he'll say. I appreciate that so much, since I have work to get done.

Deep :sarcasm:

18. If he simpley reiterates his threat to veto any bill that allows another debt ceiling vote
allows another debt ceiling vote before 2013, THAT will be "BREAKING NEWS", because of the Tuesday deadline and because Boehner has lost control of his House Republican caucus.

Saying that, and alluding to an S&P spokesman's promise of credit rating downgrade for a short-term debt ceiling raise, likely would fracture House Reppublicans even more: Some of them who had backed the current bill could then advocate revising the House bill's timetable for the next debt ceiling vote to meet the President's demand.

I expect the President to deliver the "coup de grace" to El Toro Boehner.

That makes me very sad. I do not understand how anyone can be active in political discussions and skip Presidential remarks in a time of crisis, but many people do just that.

Go with fourteen, and sweep the table clean!

I don't think that would solve anything. In fact long term it would probably make it worse and increase the chance of necessary programs being cut.

9. My hope for that is fading. I wonder what would happen if he said
"You, House and Senate, have until _____ to send me a bill that I can sign and that won't endanger the financial reputation of the United States." If I do not receive such a bill by that time, I will have no choice but to excercize the powers given to me under the Constitution of the United States to prevent irrevocable harm to the country and its people."

36. Anytime he sided
at all for any reason with Reaganism or GOP bi-partisanship instead f the people's interests created a lose/lose situation that will be hard to get out of with making a fiat debt ceiling rise without Congress. That itself is part of the script but it would seem to me that he genuinely wants to bleed himself along with SS and Medicare intricately bound to "debt repair" insanity so this will not even get him back to zero, therefore a GOP gain of sorts. Boehner gets scapegoated for incompetence. So he personally gets to be labeled loser, gets lost and the game goes on.

If he is consistent with his determination AND somehow is forced to do the challengeable debt ceiling thingee on his own that would be extremely difficult and mystifying. Probably soem nother ultimatum to try to get a rational coalition on the Dem plan without the crazy Republicans(I think personally that is ALL of them) pressured by business powers beyond the Koch goons control.

11. It's nice he's discovered the bully pulpit
A shame it's to promote the right-wing debt framing, but hey, at least he discovered it. Many of us have been bugging him to do that for so long. It's something, I s'pose.

It's sad when all of the "hope" I'm feeling these days is pinned upon the volatility of a totally batshit insane Tea Party. Like watching a bunch of drunken teenagers running around with nitroglycerine. Perhaps they'll blow themselves up before it gets anywhere near us. I figure 50/50 at this point.

And the chattering heads have done nothing but talk. This is a manufactured crisis, and economic terrorism. I am frustrated and angry about the whole sorry business.

Furthermore, the only action from the president thus far has been a gush of concessions. I'm not impressed. Are you?

22. For those who can't watch this, or won't,
you can keep an eye on Firedoglake.com, where you'll find all sorts of commentary on the President's remarks. Some of the writers there are already writing what they will post. You see, they already know what the President will say, and they don't like it one bit. Some of what they write will be posted on that site before the President is done speaking. Others may even be posted before he steps up to the podium.

It's an alternative to listening to the President's remarks.

Finally, if you can't visit FDL, due to Internet restrictions at work, just stay right here on DU and watch the Latest Posts page. Those articles will be posted there just seconds after they appear on FDL.

Announce a plan that the country wants. Close tax loopholes for corporations (overseas), raise taxes on $500K earners, and cut military spending. Oh, how about cutting Congressional perks, salaries in half, benefits in half, etc.

29. None of those things can happen without the House of Representatives
introducing and passing a bill. What do you think the chances of that might be? The President has no power to act on any of those things on his own. There is a Republican majority in the House. You may remember the 2010 election.

People who want the President to do something that is not in his power simply do not understand the situation or how our government operates.

37. No, I wouldn't and didn't say that. You just don't have the
information you need. It's all available online. Learning the way the government actually works and about the clearly drawn separation of powers in the US government is important to understanding what's possible and what's simply not possible.

You can start with a careful reading of the Constitution of the United States. Although written in somewhat archaic English, it's very clear and very simple. Beyond that, there are many many books which explain how our system operates.

It's up to you. You can learn this stuff or not.
